I decided I was going to build an asteroid base before I crafted a survival system.
I tried to make friends with the gate guard at a t10 Glitch castle when I first reached Sector X
I decided to go for a night walk on my first planet.
I do a lot of trial and error learning... I keep most of my money in ore.

Only just the dumbest thing? I got one from day one, but here are a couple of dumb things I have a habit of doing: Digging straight down without a way to deal with fall damage. I also tend to barely touch lava which is still enough to be fatal.

My dumbest specific moment would have to be during the very first public beta. I made a distress beacon and this was back when it had much higher resource costs. The penguin UFO boss shown up and me being armed with copper armor and an iron bow, I lasted perhaps five seconds tops before getting killed in one hit. To think I could have used those resources for better armor first. This was also back when I didn't know how the old armor penetration system work or even how to gain fuel to travel off the starting planet.

That explains all the empty asteroid bases I found then. :p

    Funny, so do I.

Actually, I remembered something else really dumb that I did that I didn't remembered when I first posted. I was at a planet's core and I noticed you could make a tunnel of blocks to get pass the lava. At one point, I decided... "what happens if I fall off the bottom of the screen?" and went for it. At least there was no body left behind for others to find and be like... "ha ha, what an idiot!".

Exploring a giant snow planet with only a campfire for warmth, placing it only when I really had to since I wanted to cover as much ground as possible. At one point near a mountain I told myself, "Just a few more feet!".

Cue a bunch of monsters appearing and causing me to miss placement by a few pixels. With them jumping all over damaging me and myself trying desperately to place the campfire, I froze to death.

Placed some wooden spikes at the spawn point in an atttempt to troll some buddies on the multiplayer server. Well let's just say the plan backfired...

PROTIP: Don't place wooden spikes at the spawn point.

Jumping into poisoned lakes for a simple 10 pixels, due to a deep lack of money at the time. Dying moments later.

Making it to the edge of an asteroid map only to find the map border. Jump into said empty gap and get myself automatically killed, and then lose 4,000 pixels due to it.

Getting cocky with a re-match against Dreadwing with no gun only to hide like a pansy underground. And once I had the guts to rise up and fight back, a meteor shower killed him.

Digging all the way down in a cave and having no way to get back up again.

Putting down turrets to protect my citizens, only for the turrets to kill them without hesitation.

Taking on a horde of tier 10 avian pirates because one of them looked at me funny.

These are just the tip of the iceberg of my shenanigans.

Accidentally fired my bonehammer while on my space ship loaded with full storage containers. surprised the game didn't crash after everything ejected from the chests, took forever to re-place and reorganize everything.

Y'know, if you realize you've not set that just after leaving the planet, then the name of last or last but one planet file in the universe folder includes the system co-ordinates... Did the same myself once then found that trick :) Just remember to sort by date/time when viewing that folder.

I know that feel :( worst part is that you'd think I'd learn not to do that again - nope, I click on the Starbound client after browsing on the net, and then BOOM! Ship looked like a bone ran through a china shop. Again. Or was it a bull?

Similarly (not my dumb moment), a friend of mine jumped on my ship to intimidate me with his bone sword. Of course that worked really well until he used the sword... and then he very guiltily put all the stuff back  Poor me for having MY stuff being thrown on the ground, poor him for being the one responsible to clean it up

Most recent dumbest thing I've done was I got too hype after eating Banana Bread and getting the speed boost it gives you, and then ran straight off a steep cliff and died instantly when I hit the bottom. I was almost done exploring the surface, too....

probably the overall dumbest thing is when I spend probably 3+ hours attempting to build a dirt ladder into the upper atmosphere so I could try to mine the meteors above the planet, and not only running out of dirt more than once because I'd failed to bring enough ,but also getting myself instantly murdered multiple times in a row both because I got knocked off by flying enemies, fell off the dirt ladder while trying to scale it, or instantly freezing to death when I hit the upper atmosphere. By the time I finally reached a meteorite, it had absolutely nothing useful in it and I had no desire to keep trying to do the same stupid thing.

Also, I came very close to doing what OP did! I found a planet I liked enough to make my new homeworld, stored all of my stuff there, set it as my home planet, and went back to my old home planet (I'd written down its coords before changing home planets) to collect what I'd left there. As I was leaving I accidentally hit the "set home" button instead of the "go home" button, and reset my home planet to the original place I'd settled on. Thankfully because I'd gotten the coordinates from this forum and had them written down, I was able to go back to my new home planet and reclaim it, but that came pretty close to screwing everything up!
