I thought since the topic of this thread is dumb things you didn't realize - we might be talking about two different situations in the same game. When I think of someone having a bad time without a silo I don't immediately think of sunny days when you can let your chickens roam free. I think of winter or a string of stormy or rainy days. You think in a thread like this you'd be a little less condescending but ah well.
People keep talking about the Bathhouse restoring energy - the one time I went there, my energy bar was half empty, and I spent a good three hours there (at least 2 of those in the actual sauna part) and my energy bar didn't so much as budge one tick upwards.
They don't - leaving the doors open doesn't stop them giving me goods, including large eggs and large milk. My barn and coop are, however, fenced in, and I do close their doors when it rains.
Tried that, too. Still nothing. 'course, that was like 2 days after launch so maybe it was bugged at the time. /shrug
Well I've discovered if they have full hearts they will give you goods no matter what. But my newer animals won't give me eggs or milk after 3 days of leaving the door open. So probably all yours just love you enough.
They don't. I have brand new animals - they only get mad if I don't feed them. Do you leave them with fully-stocked troughs every night? Are you growing grass for them to eat?
Yep, have been putting everything in that stupid box thinking I could get it out. I finally found where it looks like I have to craft the storage boxes, but have no clue how or where to do that. Only know it takes 50 wood.
Have fifty wood. Open your inventory and click on the crafting button (looks like a little hammer). Select the storage box to build.
Thank you! I finally now have a storage place. Can they not be moved once placed? I wish there were more directions on this game. Hard to figure things out. Otherwise I love it.
You can move it when you click it long enough (or use a tool I think), but I'm not sure what happens with the content
My stuff is mostly due to a lack of explanation of game mechanics early on, and likely already been covered, but I'll add it anyway. Ya know, just in case it helps someone. lol - Don't clear out your farm completely. Sure it's overgrown, but you need trees for tappers later.. and grass isn't stored anywhere till you build a place to store it! I thought it went into a bin some place right from the start. -Speaking of which, there is a crafting menu tab in your inventory and you start knowing how to make some basic things already.. like storage chests.. which can be placed inside and outside your house at will. - Clicking and holding with an upgraded tool is how to do it's special move. I thought it didn't have one. Because of how the sword works, I was right clicking without results at first. - The books you find are full of tips. I didn't realize you could read them, I thought they were just collectible stuff for the library gear.. a way to help the town grow. - You don't have to unlock a trellis crafting recipe to grow stuff that grows on one. It just means you can't walk through the crop. I skipped those seeds for most of the year going "why can't I build one already?!" - I didn't fish at first cuz it took forever to get a bite. Turns out fishing levels well and becomes a valid way to make coin in your off time, you just have to stick with it for awhile. - Always save some crops as villagers like to ask for them. - The calendar and mission board ARE NOT the same.. just next to each other. I missed so many missions that way. - When you upgrade a tool, clint takes it away for a few days. (my poor watering can!) - There is a traveling merchant/gypsy lady parked at the top west of the forest, south of your farm. She comes Friday and Sunday and while her prices are often high, she sells sprinklers and often has out of season goods. (for those of you who forgot to give something to the community center previously) - The house upgrades don't just add what they say (IE a kitchen) they make your house bigger too. - Fertilizer.. use it BEFORE you place your seeds.. and remember that you can craft some from sap early on. (so don't sell your sap thinking "hey this minuses my energy?! Must be okay to sell.") - Jojo cola is trash, even if it's a snack to you.. so most villagers hate it. - Friendship can slowly decrease if you don't talk to someone often enough. - After unlocking the community center and figuring out what it's for, your inventory has a community center button near the "organize." This helps you not waste time going back and forth checking what items you need. On the same note, the back arrow that appears near your items when viewing a tile allows you go back to the tile's main screen without needing to back out and re-enter it. - Worms poking out of the ground mean "dig with hoe here to discover item." - If you get to the point where your so out of energy you slow down, eating to refill your energy makes you speed up again.. but you will STILL wake up with only half energy the next day. - Your fortune on the TV affects drops.. as in quality, quantity, etc.. but it also affects the enemies in the mine, how dark the mine is and even the arcade games in the bar. This fortune is in affect EVEN if you don't view it from the TV. (I originally thought it was a chance to buff or debuff your day) - Casting your fishing pole all the way to max doesn't always mean a gold star fish gets caught. The game considers how far your bobber is from "walkable land" not just the strength of the cast. So some spots will NEVER have anything above silver star fish. Also on this note, some fish can only be caught in certain weather, seasons, or certain spots. - If you die in the mine, you lose money, energy, possibly an item AND forget floors making you have to do them again.. so curtail your risks. - The stock in the adventurers guild sucked when I first looked, so I thought it was tied to my combat skill.. nope, it's how deep into the mine you've actually gotten to. - Even though they are pricey, Rarecrows are just neat to look at.. no buffs or anything - You can walk north of the bus.. missed a bunch of forage my first few months because that didn't occur to me. - That broken bridge on the beach that needs 300 wood is worth fixing early on, as it leads to more beach and thus, more shells. - Villagers can ask for items in a bulletin board quests that they normally hate. Be wary of this and pay more attention to the notices you get in the mail or by talking to them, as the mission board is sometimes misleading about what they like. If a villager hates a gift, it can drop friendship rather than aid it. - Want to marry someone? Don't forget to find a certain person, carrying a certain item.. or you can't do it. This person only appears when it's raining. Click the spoiler to see who.. A ghost fisherman appears on rainy days. He will sell you a marriage charm "when your ready" and is located on the beach, past the broken bridge. You find him hidden in some bushes to the north. And this is all just after going through one year.. I shudder to think how much more I have to learn. I thought I was good at these games. After all, I played rune factory alot. This game told me I was a chump! haha
- Jojo cola is trash, even if it's a snack to you.. so no villager likes it. Correction: Sam likes joja Cola
Okay well, I don't know what to tell you then. You and I are having different experiences. I leave their food troughs completely full every day even if they go outside. I pet them every day. There is an abundance of grass right outside that I let them wander through when it's nice outside. Every day it tells me they are happy or fine but sometimes - usually a couple days after I forget to close the door at night - I don't have as many eggs or can't milk them. Closing the door every night fixes that problem. And when I tell other people to do this as well they say it helps. So if you have another theory, let me know but right now my best one is that the door needs to be closed every night.
I constantly am having to give Pam, I think is the name joja cola. Is one of the things I seem to get on the quest board.
