I have heard that in Starbound, you will be able to equip certain items to the Right and Left hands. Of course, looking at the UI, you can see that this is true. However, all the items that have been shown are Two-handed. Does any body have any more information regarding the dual wielding system?

there's been plenty of one handed items shown already

But there's never been one-handed items being shown dual wielded. Sorry, I misworded my post.

I would like to know more about the dual wielding system too... It will probably be shown by the devs soon...

    This one features dual wielding.

It would be really cool if you could have guns pointing in opposite directions. It would be hard to control, but maybe some kind of a 'lock gun facing one direction, control other'. Could get messy :p

    Everyone's dual-wielding and I'm sitting here using a two-handed gun.

Haha, It's alright...lots of guns are two-handed. You're still great.

On a discussion note: Dual wielding is more of a video game/movie concept than a reality in real life. Guns simply kick too much to make dual wielding feasible and dual swords, axes, etc. are difficult to coordinate. All that being said, I still like that aspect of video games.

I hope they include being able to dual wield shields :>

Oooooh time to get factual,Dual wielding was a common practice taught in soviet spies (KGB I believe) to increase weapon efficiency within ground troops, if I have my facts correct it is also commonly used in practise nowadays!

There's actually a gif somewhere of some human swinging swords one after another, hence dual wielding. Can anyone dig it up? I think it was part of the imageset with tons and tons of gifs on it.

Lightweight guns with less recoil wouldn't be impossible to dual wield in real life, plus you could have the guns strapped to your arms if there is a little too much recoil. Also lightweight swords and axes goes for the same, for dual wielding heavier swords or axes it would get more difficult, although if crafted in a specific way combined with your own body weight and fluid movement it would be feasible.

Using pistols, recoil isn't much of an issue but accuracy is. There's no way to carefully aim down the gun sights with two weapons at once so it's much more difficult to hit your target. This can be (mostly) overcome simply by firing faster in order to get the same number of hits in the same amount of time, but you use a lot more ammo.

Everything's difficult to coordinate at first. Things take practice.
I actually have experience dual wielding melee weapons. (Don't ask how.) As long as you have a good guard position, it's just as easy to coordinate as any other weapon's form. If you have a guard stance where your swords are clacking into each other by accident, then that's a problem, but that really shouldn't be happening at all.
Dual wielding heavier weapons is, of course, more difficult. If you can't control it in one hand, don't dual wield it. With certain weapons, like polearms, you can brace them in certain ways to give you better control, but you generally have to shift it around a lot and it's a bother.
Most all video game depictions of dual wielding are incorrect in more or less all possible ways. It would, however, most likely be rather difficult to make a video game with an accurate depiction of it. So the best thing to do, I suppose, is to try to figure out which one you like best, not the one that's most realistic.

I'm not saying you're wrong here, but I think Dark Souls did an okay job of representing dual wield melee (though perhaps still incorrect compared to reality.) Rather than flailing around with two weapons, the left weapon is used mainly for defense, parrying an attack with a lightweight dagger or rapier is the most common use. Like you said it still takes alot of practice, even in the game, but it works pretty well once you get the hang of it. Of course that may just be because the game mechanics favour lightweight builds meant for dodging and backstabs (backstab and riposte are considered automatic critical hits) but it is still pretty cool to see someone in PvP running around with dual daggers or scimitars or what have you, especially if he/she is quick and precise enough to parry (getting stabbed by said person is less cool.)
Starbound on the other hand will probably go the more ridiculous route, where you can swing two different weapons around like some sort of humanoid lawnmower, though I wouldn't mind seeing "shields" with weapon-like appearances for "parrying" (perhaps a mod?)

Also does anyone else think a dual wielding llama sounds really awesome for some reason? Maybe its just me. :p
