You do. once, but again you can just use your cellphone as a hub for that one log in, you just gotta start it up. then you can offline with it. as you need to have your computer verified.

Steam. It would be more convenient (for me anyway) and fast updates are pretty important in a beta.

Steam at first, but I do want a DRM version when the updates don't have to be that frequent anymore.

I think with the amount of players that starbound has that already use steam, it's probably pretty reasonable that steam should be used.
Especially if that means we get quicker, more frequent updates for us to 'test'. :3

I'm still curious to find out why the Steam version can't be DRM-free.. Is it something that has to do with Early Access?

Or will it indeed be DRM-free on Steam and the dev just used "DRM-free" as shorthand for "not needing a third party client to update"?

    Steam IS DRM.
I'm all for Steam too, it's way more convenient for me, and apparently for the devs too.

I have an issue with this modern sense of "al DRM ez teh ultimates evilz" that seems to plague gamers these days. Steam is DRM. CD Keys are DRM, launchers are DRM. It is unlikely any level of Starbound, whether through Steam or not, will be totally DRM free. At the same time it is unlikely that they're going to have the problems of Diablo/Simcity/FFLXIV.

My vote is still Steam. This is the beta, after all. As long as it's made available somehow, Chucklefish held up their side of the bargain.

...I feel like I'm going in circles here.

There are Steam games that, once you download/install them, you never have to use Steam again in order to play them. You can luanch them, move them, copy them, play multiplayer, update them (if there are updates available by other means) all without ever touching Steam again. Obviously updating will only be available on Steam, but I'm trying to find out if the game will be tied to Steam in any other way.

Steam HAS DRM, it isn't always DRM itself. I'm trying to find out whether or not they'll be using Steam's DRM services.

Why do people have issues with the DRM services anyway?, i've never been locked out of steam offline mode before.

consitering the poll says that 10times the people want steam, its propley gonna be on steam
most of the people who hate steam live in the stoneages and have almost no internet, or they cheated in a valve game and got caught, or they dislike pc gameing

    its usually one of those

Steam is more convenient and a lot of people (including myself) are just more comfortable with it. As for the update speed, I don't mind if it's fast or slow. I'd prefer updates to be a tad slower than what's been described just because quick updates can break more things than they fix sometimes.

I vote for steam cause I'm lazy.

Well, that's a proper beta :p its supposed to be buggy, testing, its not a game, its a production client, which we're helping to debug :) thou i guess it don't hurt to enjoy it too.

While I want a DRM free version that I can carry about with me, (Yes, I'm like that.) I'd prefer the beta to be on Steam. The constant updates will allow them to work through problems faster and get a full release out all the quicker.

I've had a hell of a time with GFWL before. A lot of DRM is pretty frustrating.

I admit I've never really had any problems with steam, but I can understand why some people wouldn't want to tie themselves to it. Gaming is such a big part of my life it makes me nervous sometimes that steam has that much power over how I game.

True, true. But still, I like quality over quantity in my updates. There will still be bugs, but I'd prefer to not run into bugs that a quick playtest or proof-read on the developer's end could have fixed right away.

But.. Then the quickness in which the updates come out would surely alleviate that?

    2PM Update introduces bug
4PM Update gets rid of bug..

I'd rather have 5 updates in 1 day that fix 5 things, than 1 update every 5 days that tries to fix (and potentially breaks) 20 things. The devs can only update and look at things, they need actual hands on them in order to test them.

They could work a whole month and not find certain bugs, some things need more than 10 people to test.

I was primarily going to play Starbound through Steam anyway. My vote is with steam.

There's FAR worse DRM than Steam, I'm just glad they went that route. Instead of other using another type of DRM (some of which are rather infamous for installing rootkits.)
