Drills or Pickaxes

Which do you guys prefer?

Haven't really noticed mining speed since i made a drill right away(pretty sure there is though). Main difference I have found is that drills mine 2x2 while pickaxes do 3x3.

A diamond drill also costs 20 diamond and 6.4k pix, much much more than a diamond pickaxe.

I hope they do buff the drill.

 

how do you get a drill?

 

the drill is ment for mining out minerals, it is faster in that the pickaxe. the pickaxe on the other hand is faster when digging tunnels

 

Drill, since 2x2 is more useful than 3x 3 in my opinion, less wasted area mined.

 

Do you guys notice the drill mining the minerals faster?

 

I haven't gotten a drill yet, but what is the purpose of it, if it doesn't mine faster? Seeing as how it is apparently 2x2 instead of 3x3.

 

me and a friend tested it. he had the diamond pickaxe and i had the platinum drill. when mining the same ore the drill was faster

 

my plat drill mines a bit faster than my diamond pickaxe.. but the 2x2 and 3x3 is a big factor

 

how is 2x2 better than 3x3, even if it mines minerals slightly faster? I felt stupid for blowing so much mats on plat drill when I wouldn't have bothered if I had tried copper drill.

 

Drills are faster but that is about it, but they also have half the health of the pickaxes.

to use diamond tier as an example,

a diamond tier pickax does 2.7 tile damage per hit with 7500 uses in a 3x3 radius
a diamond tier drill does 3.7 tile damage per hit with 3000 uses in 2x2 radius

 

The thing is, in order for the drill to be superior, it has to mine over twice as fast as the pick because it is mining less than half the ore. The drill mines 4 ore at a time, the pick mines 9. The drill must be SIGNIFICANTLY faster for it to even contend with the pick, which is kind of bass-ackwards.

 

Drills are basically proof of concept at the moment and aren't balanced.

 

Drills should be faster and better at everything.

I picture something like this, Pickaxes, Mining Drills, Mining Laser.

Mining drills will start to use fuel of some sort, so that is the cost at having a better faster drill and or laser at everything.

Not fun to have high tech and still run around using a pickaxe imo. its a bit silly. A pickaxe should never compete with a drill ever.

 

The drill would be preferable to me, if I had one, because my character is only 4 blocks by 2 blocks. 3 by 3 does me NO good.

 

When drills are balanced correctly I think drill, but atm they're unbalanced and pickaxes rekt them.

 

Pickaxes now, Drils are hardly any faster and mine a small 2x2 area. They will be upgraded to 3x3 in the next patch though so I'm keeping my drill locked in a chest! going for a drill the next playthrough!

odd, cuz i remember a person I know having a diamond drill that drilled 4x4 areas

 

probably modded.

 

I was wondering about why drills were pants, so its good to know they will be 3x3
