This lil guy here. It's a Dragoblah. They are pretty small (around half to 1 feet tall) and monochromatic with a black aura (Like rendering somwthing using cell-shading in real life, no one knows how). They can eat through dirt and rock (they carve their houses in small boulders).* They normally create communities ranging from a rock with 5 individuals living on it to huge colonies with around 1000 or more located on the underground cave systems. They are capable of establish a society equivalent of the medieval times, with that fancy landlords and vassal stuff going on. * The main castes in big hives are: Worker, Acolyte, Warrior and Noble. Their avarage IQ is kinda low for an "advanced creature" so overall sillyness is expected.* They have a thing with screws and bolts for some crazy reason. Like these objects were the avatar of some God of theirs, the dragoblahs worship these as holy artifacts and often uses them in sacred rituals. Nobles tend to carry miniatures or even real ones around in necklaces or crowns (Like their King does) as a symbol of their caste.* Their main currency is pebbles. The bigger or the preetier they look, the most valuable the pebbles are. They love when adventurers come and give them shiny stuff (specially screws and bolts) in exchange for ores they gather. They are hard as titanium and their limbs are whiggly and gelatinous though extremely resistent. They dont breath or eat, although they'll often open their mouth and inhale/exhale deeply, besides attampting to bite anything from time to time.* Once one consumes enough rare minerals, which would take decades if not centuries, a dragoblah is ready to reproduce. They'll stand for a moment and start to produce an immense amount of heat and radiation (How they even...), processing and concensing the ores until a new offspring is created. They spit the babby and go about their business.Lifespan is unknow, it is said they wont grow or age after certain point die by natural causes. When they happen to die, their corpses will trigger an instant meltdown, causing their lil bodies to melt. It is possible to mine their carcasses for a very strong metal. They are very noisy, only using the letters D,R,A,G,O,B, L and H in their dialect. Also Dragoblah is a VERY common word for them (Like a pokemon, but "less" obnoxious). Look at this bastard go! They can jump around quite high for their size. FOR FREEDOM!Dragoblahs are pretty good a throwing stuff. Flippin' them haterz like BBQ.NEW: I forgot to add this... And why not they can be your pet!Dragoblahs excels in fighting small to medium creatures and finding valuable ores, gathering them on their own. They'll attempt to eat these though so as soon as you're close wack him between the eyes, this will make him spill the contents. NEW 2: Felt like this entry was lacking art compared to the other ones, so I gathered some old stuff and made some new content.Old Stuff: My friend told me to do the art for some magic cards he was doing using a neat software, turned out the cards came out horrible unbalanced but we had fun doing them anyways. A Dragoblah can extend both his arms and legs, holding tight their feet forming a wheel with their limbs, and roll around. 1.: Just a bunch of these fellows showing their warfaces, also a Commiblah wielding his mighty bolter hatin' on some mutants. 2.: How they AGE (IF THAT WASNT OBVIOUS ENOUGH) although their behaviors arent as obvious.-Babby dragoblahs (0 -10 years): They have this horrible habit of screaming ALL THE TIME, since they are new to the whole concept of being alive in a plane of existence and yet, "smart" enough to question about what is happening, understand not a single thing and panic; They also dont have enough motor control on his upper limbs so adults teach them to keep their hands on their head until their are mentally stabilized, or else they'll just flail them non-stop.-Teenager dragoblahs (10 -40 years): They reach this part of their lives once they are familiar with the whole concept of life and matter. This is also the part where they are assigned to parts of the society. Their methods of choosing is based on "percentage of population per caste" system. A population must have 50% workers, 16% acolytes, 4% nobles and 30% warriors. Their limbs are still a bit whiggly but will be able to perform tasks that require precision.-Adult dragoblahs (40- ? years): This is the part where they stop growing in size. Used with the life in the community, adult dragoblahs will fulfill their jobs for the rest of their life. 3.: A random scene of an acolyte carving a rock with a sacred rune of protection. The turquoise liquid is the product of a dragoblah consuming radioactive ores and refining these into the strange substance. It is known to be highly toxic and magnetic. They use these to create protective wards, "enchant" armor and weapons and also create floating hoverrocks for the warriors to around. 4.: Basic look of each caste. NEW 3: MORE ART, YOU SPACE HOBOS! Old sprite art I did on a mod for Terraria. I replaced the jellies with these horrible things and I just shat myself cause it was too damn funny. Old sketch of 2 random heros I felt like redoingIHATECOLORING This is the big cheese, the godfather of space, the almight emperor of all universe NPC I have in mind. Lorewise, the Dragoblah is quite a new thing going around the Starbound universe. No one knows where they keep coming from but throughout the planets, huge white screw-shaped objects just appear out of nowhere, like it was deepstriked into the surface or perhaps teleported. And every place these screws spawns, these small insect-like metallic creatures start showing up. Tests were made with these creatures, until the Universal Concil of Biology considered them an advanced race. First step of the Concil was to carefully choose a plentiful of these creatures and teach them how the whole universe and it's "laws" work, to act as an intelectual representative of their species. Just to find out they might be advanced to some things but extremely DUMB to others.Afters years of failed experiments and attempts, a dragoblah is proven to be SMART enough to get a hold on all the knowledge on concepts of science, sociology and history yadda-yadda (with the help of custom made cortex activity accelerator and a miniature fusion reactor to power it).Slightly taller than 2 feet, Bahog is the powerarmored Dragoblah NPC that can found (way to aqcuire him yet to be discussed, Devs feel free to make up your own) and will work for you in the Space Station once you rescue/contract his servises. The main idea is that his speciality are radioactive and eletromagnectic components in general. He can modify suits so they become more resistent to the effects of eletric-based attacks, EMPs and radioactive hazards. He will also enable certain blueprints, like new parts for guns, a replica of his Miniature Fusion Reactor (Gives the player increased power regeneration), a Ore Scanner (At the cost of special energy cells that can be bought/crafted or maybe using player's energy, this tool will send out a pulse that will sweep the whole screen and highlight for a couple of seconds any ore it be have around. Might also highlight certain creatures/resources.) and even the fearsome Dragoblaster, an automatic plasma-based rifle whose bullets explodes into a gooey mess that sticks on the surfaces it enter in contact to, causing and area of sticky burning doom. And much more! New 4: Awesome pixel art by Lazer! Think thats all for now! Please leave any comment, critic, thoughts you might have on this entry and character concept. Tell me if you like it or if you want me to go out in the woods, fight a bear with my bare hands and die being mauled to death! And thanks for the support! You monster! I also happen to have made a shimeji mod (these things that jump around in your desktop) of him. Feel free to download it here (Mediafire). I hope the community and the devs like this entry for the contest. I wish good luck to all participating. They are also the perfect creature ever and EVERYONE should consider welcoming our Dragoblah overlords.
Thanks! I've come up with these fellows a long time ago, and I've always wanted to spread him somwhere. I've even some other ideas I could share and old art I have of them. If anyone else is interested in looking at them I might update the OP.
you put a lot of work into your submission! I like the idea of a pet that can help you find ore/treasure. Also, It would be quite interesting to stumble upon a civilization of these guys. I can imagine their tiny castles built In caves ^_^ Great work on a very comprehensive submission.
Thanks. I like to think their bases would be actually part of the terrain, but make it look like it was lilttle castle/zygurats; If you break the rock, a dragoblah might pop out of it and star at you with that oblivious gaze, then just smile and get inside a hole or something. Or maybe you really piss they HELL off them and warriors come out of the holes and start to poke your legs. Perhaps I'll add on the OP a line or two about the NPC related to them I had in mind, plus some random junk. What I had in mind really. Silly creatures with no dicernable behavior, just wondering around doing god-knowns what. Getting accidently hit by a dirt block thrown by one of those or witness it vomiting a babby dragoblah in front of you and it start screaming flailing his arms.
I'm seriously fearing for every other entry, this is possibly exactly what Chucklefish would like! I'm shaking in my boots meself, good luck, Joxalot.
There is a quite funny story about the name. Mostly an inside joke between my group of RPG friends, the name was when one of the goons misheard "you have to kill the dragon blahblahblah" and asked what a dragonblah is. And I had this creature already in my mind (and scribbled all over my sketchbooks, school notebooks and such.) It had no name and Dragoblah just fitted so perfectly. Wow thanks!! I just felt they would fit a setting like Starbound's. Although that's just an expectation, for the game is not even out yet! And I also beleive there are plenty of incredible entries with well-planned lore and concepts. But still, hearing this is inspiring to say the least! I'd like to thank everyone that liked, posted or just took a time to see my entry, for any reply is important! I also took some time and sketched the Dragoblaster! I'm posting from my work but I promise I'll post it soon!
Wow, that's quite some text. From what I've read, it's a pretty cool entry. Good luck in the competition ; )
Incredible! Thank you a bunch. I'll add it to the OP with credits if you dont mind. Oh yes I kinda ended up overdoing it I think And there is A LOT of grammar mistakes there. This is what I get for posting some stuff with a laggy Iphone. When I have time I'll try to condense all the blahblahblah into something more enjoyable to read. And still no dragoblaster, 30 till I gotta work, so unfortunally I'm not sure if I can post it today neither tomorrow. Soon hopefully!
I don't think it matters much. I think the devs are bound to read it all anyway (Mwuhahaha!) This makes me want to type a really annoying text when/if I finnish my entry
