Doubt about planet view from space ships

I'll be objective here. I was thinking about the planet view from the space ships. What would happen if every single block of a planet was carried to another planet? I mean, if a player could have the patience to transport ALL of the blocks of a planet to another including the water. How the planet view would look like? The planet would still be there? o_O

(any mistake of grammar is because I'm learning english, which isn't my natural language, etc..)

    Well, what do you mean?

If you're wondering what would happen if you, say, replaced all of Planet A's plant and animals with that of planet B, than A would likely have the same view from above. From what I know, those views are generated from the planet's coordinates, not from examining the planet's actual contents. (The view still corresponds to what the planet would normally have, though, so if you see a purple forest from space, you'll land in a purple forest.)

If you're wondering what would occur if you dismantled an entire planet- it's impossible. Similar to Minecraft, planets either have unbreakable bedrock at their cores or deadly lava, so blocks would remain even after mining out everything else.

It's impossible to be sure right now, though.

VERY. VERY. VERY INTERESTING. YOUR MIND'S CREATION MUST BE PUNISHED!!!

Wow that's some good stuff. What he means is if "planet A" with seed x001 y220 for example is a grassland biome, then the overworld view will be a grass biome. BUT, what if you take the lava/ice/whatever blocks of another planet and transfered all of it's blocks to "x001 y220" which was already generated to have an overworld of grasslands? Bam right on the money.

You are too good oh wise owl, get nerfed in the next patch please.

I was wondering what can they (the devs) do to show a planet exactly as it should be on the planet view, because I don't see how they could do that by the current mechanics. This is a concern, I'm not trying to complain about the game, but I just want to see my planet "as above, so below" if you understand what I mean

This may not be an issue if during the loading process the random generation is done first, and then a background is selected -from what color block most dominates the surface/planet-. If that check is always done though when it loads you maybe able to change the planet background and planet view.

Really depends on how its coded. See if one of the devs on irc or somewhere could answer. This is a really neat question.

Considering you only really have access to a narrow strip around the planet, no changes you make would be visible. However if you ignore that and assume that the area you have access to does in fact represent the entire planet's surface, this could come into play...

And then I just think for the "scanning system" brought u[ by Xander, why cover then entire planet? When you can have a city, a tundra, and a barren desert all appear on the overworld based on their location?

I believe the answer to that question would depend on the person with enough patience and will, to spend the tremendous time needed to transfer all those blocks between planets. If however I built a lava castle on my forest world and it actually displayed from space... :whaaat:

That is a hilarous question. since we can only interact in 2d, if the view of a planet from another planet doesn't change, i'll just assume we're seeing it from another angel. SOLVED.

I think the view will always represent the initial proc gen version of the planet. It would take many hours/days of wasteful coding to represent the current state of the planet, and a VERY small minority of players would be in a position to actually notice the discrepancy.

Great idea. It reminds me of Flatland populated with two dimensional beings that don't realize there is a third dimension.

LoL. You're right but I doubt no one will do that. Who knows man. There are some crazy people out there. I was just philosophizing about some stuff in the game. May they can just change the planet based on how many blocks of an specific biome are there. It's not difficult, they only need to make like terraria, when you're in an area, depending on the blocks placed there, the background changes, you know. I guess the planets could follow this rule too.

The planet's image is most likely just generated off the seed and won't change.

The planet would explode - There would no longer be any space view

yeah i was wondering that also, like corruption on terraria. If you could make a biome on a diff planet like take a jungle one and put it into a ice planet or something.

I'm sure if you terraformed the planet the view would change but not blocks.

Yeah true. You're roughly only affecting a strip of land, not the whole planet (and you won't be able to see it from space...).
