Does the aurora differ from planet to planet?

A friend of mine is trying to update his homeworld and re-build it on the new universe. However, his old homeworld had a huge and impressive aurora at night, but so far all we've been able to find is small auroras that barely clear the mountains in the back, like this: http://puu.sh/kXG6q/b190f102a2.jpg

Is this normal for most planets? Was the original huge aurora a fluke? Or have we just not found the right planet yet?

Nah, you're just at a lower altitude causing that mountain paralax to rise, whilst your friend must've been at a high enough one to see the full aurora. Try hiking up some hills or mountains, if there are any on that planet, otherwise you might have to find a different one.

    Or build a mountain.

I want to go to wherever the citizens of Starbound shop for clothes. They can hold entire mountains in their pockets without being slowed down slightly.
