    Wait, no! Those things on her head are really cocoons! SHE'S RELEASING THEM ALL AT ONCEWARGARBLE!!!!

    And yes, it's called 'tech', but... come on! :rofl:;; Happy pink butterfly bubble jump is just... if something like THIS belongs in Starbound, then I have no problem with fireballs and light pillars. :p

    ... then again, I'm bias toward fantasy anyway. ^^;

    You and me both. I don't mind realism, but my ideas of realism are kinda... well... different. I believe in the observable universe, but i also believe in science's Law of Infinite Probability. Just because on our planet magic (as we know it) doesn't exist doesn't mean somewhere else an advanced alien race could harness something we don't yet understand. That is the beauty of science fiction at it's core! As long as it can be rooted in some scientific (or even pseudo-science) then it is part of the genre. At least that is how i see it. I mean... a lot of Science fiction written ages ago made submarines cell phones sound like fantastical things, and we use them daily today.

    If there is a Chemistry-Set, I want a realistic particle reaction. So you need to split atoms with a Tool from e.g. Water, Fire, mud. So you can create blasting stuff, but maybe it's too complicated for the usual gamers.

    Farming, yes. Alchemy, well that depends. If you mean "Clap your hands and magic stuff will happen", no none of that. If you mean a more traditional sense such as mixing elements *cough Chemistry cough* then yes I think that would fall under crafting.

    Because cannabilistic sentient plants and sentient plasma isn't fantasy.

    I'd point out the Po too, but they're rejects(to the community, but they're still in the game by the devs).

    There may be other things we haven't seen in Starbound that can be deemed fantasy

    You're perfectly right, it isn't fantasy. ;) It's not necessarily sci-fi either. Both of those things could totally fit into the world of Star Trek though, I think, and that's pretty sci-fi.

    Well no real conventional forms of alchemy exist now... but maybe in Starbound that takes place in the future.

    Pot or pan, I still want to combine sugar, spice, and some other strange stuff, and some random ingredient X and spit out something useful.

    Or just mix together a bunch of synthesized "Fake" chemicals to create a solution that causes people to see enemies where there are none.

    Yeah, I'm not gonna give you that one. Because people like you on the forum label what you want to be fantasy-esque.
    If you don't think it's even a little fantasy then you're in denial.

    If you think that there is exclusive ownership of elements to either sci-fi or fantasy, you're in denial. Sure, there are things that could be either sci-fi or fantasy at the same time. Sentient plants or plasma could be in either...but at the moment you say "sentient plasma", that sure sounds more scientific than fantastical. And people like me? Let's not make this personal, or this is going to get heated. YOU, and me, everyone decides what they think falls under what. I think it feels more sci-fi. Please, leave the poor dead horse alone.

    When I think of plasma, I think of matter that lacks sentience. It gaining sentience is fantasy oriented. Ever see the living soot in Spirited Away(Fantasy movie)? Pretty much the same thing with Novakids.
    Also, you and another brought it up in the thread, so stop taking the horse out of its grave if you don't want people to beat it.

    Are we still talking about alchemy vs. chemistry anymore? No. We're talking about loose nuances about what can be fantasy or science fiction. Do you think that ghosts or zombies would belong to fantasy? It could be in either, there are definite blurred lines between the two, so back to the subject: at the end of the day, alchemy is fantasy's chemistry, and without nitpicking it's more or less an issue of semantics/word choice...just like I said in my first post.
