i refine my ore and when i need pixel i just right click them in the refinery so i got half of them with me and the other half stay stored in the refinery.
    useless compressor

Have used it twice in total. I think I will used it twice more (for the 5k and 10k sprite).

For the rest I use the ores and bars, mainly copper, silver and gold (very rarely diamond ore) in the refinery.

Cool kids keep their pixels invested in stacks of 1000 diamond ore until needed.:cool::cool::cool::cool:

I use it except I have a mod installed that removes the pixel loss so it has a use for me.

    It IS useful...

When you have a mod that adds a refinery that refines the voxels at 100%. Otherwise it's a big NAAAAAAAH

I'm cooler, I keep stacks of diamonds since four times the ore takes up space. :p

I built two refineries. The first I make pixels for when I need them, the second to just hoard pixels for whatever future reason and let them sit in the refinery. Maybe one day they'll have a use - buying a wife (DON'T JUDGE ME), make pixel blocks to place, a pixel bed I can lay naked on and feel rich, or eat them to make my sewage blocks sparkle or something. Heck, I'll build a planet out of pixels. So I can mine pixels while spending pixels.

I just edited the player.config file so I wouldn't lose pixels upon death. It's too harsh a penalty for dying and since this games relies too heavily on pixels being needed for crafting, I don't want to be penalized for exploration (which this game is even more about). So I voted no, because I have absolutely no need to store pixels.

    40% is ridiculous.

However, to add a bit of progression, they could have it start off like this at 40%, and you can upgrade it over time. Get it down to 30%, 20%, 10% and even 0% interest, through successive crafting as approach the end-game.

Just gave me an idea. What if the voxels themselves started out with a low refine rate, then gradually built back up to the original value over time? I don't know if it's possible from within the inventory, but they could use the crop system and it works nicely due to the added inconvenience of having to leave your money out in the open. Bigger voxels become more handy for space reasons if you want to fit them on your ship.

I'm thinking maybe a sort of scale like:
    60% for 0-1 hour
    70% for 1-4 hours
    80% for 4-12 hours
    90% for 12-24 hours
    100% after 24 hours

I use it whenever I accumulate 10k pixels from just killing monsters or whatever. Never know when you are going to want to drop into a threat 10 Floran prison and clean house. I tend to just dive in to such dungeons to keep things exciting so a few deaths is a given. Better to take a single 40% loss than whatever loss you'd take for a few deaths.

Not like it makes a big difference either way. Long before you are max geared pixels become trivial to obtain through refining.

I think for the pixel compression to be more useful, the giant hit for compressing them should be compressed itself. 40% off your pixel input is quite steep IMO. They either need to lower that or make enemies more difficult so it's actually worth sacrificing 40% of your input pixels for the sake of safety.

Actually using a refinery as a pixel bank is quite a good idea! Hadn't thought about it before :p though to me banking and saving pixels still should come at a price..

No, it's a piece of shit. I had a mod that let me convert sets of 1000 into a stackable item, but the mod author seems to have stopped it, which pissed me off. It was actually GOOD.

Not that I've found the pixel compressor useful, but everyone seems to be caught up simply on the fact that you lose 40% from using it. However, that only happens once. So if you have 10k pixels and choose to lose 40% once and keep 6k, that is better than having 10k on you and dying twice. You die twice starting with 10k, and you lose 30% the first time, down to 7k, and you lose 30% the next time, down to 4900. So you'll have lost 51% if you die twice. No matter how much you have, you're losing 51% if you die twice, 10k was just using a real number people could see.

The only time it might be useful is early on, where you're at greater risk of dying suddenly. But then you can't make it at that point.

Sure I use it. All the time.

At death you loose 30% of your pixels. That's just dying one time. So a 40% loss in compression, over the long haul, is actually beneficial. Which is why I have 120,000 pixels worth of voxels currently.

Do any of you not using it have 120,000 pixels? Didn't think so. In the mean time I could just save my ore and refine it when I needed pixels for something. But then I'd be saving stacks of ore, and many of them. I can earn a thousand silver for instance in very little time, which means I'd have multiple stacks of silver ore, not to mention copper, gold, and platinum, which I refine. By compressing them, it puts the voxels in one little stack. No trouble, no mess. Yea I loose 40% but again, I have 120,000 pixels worth ( yes that's after 40% loss ) and that amount is growing over time.

I need the pixels too. I dump every furniture item I find ( almost ) into my 3D printer, and doing that costs pixels just to scan the items, much less print them if I need them.

So in short yes, I use the pixel compressor. I usually don't touch it until I get to Delta, as I don't need it before that. Then after that, and especially in Sector X, I use my pixel compressor constantly. It doesn't need to be removed. I use it. I use it a lot. It's something I need.

It's basicaly pointless with it's high cost. The downside to banking your money for safekeeping in a game is that you don't have immediate access to it and have to go back to wherever to get it. Look at Dragon Quest games that have a bank. The only limit in that is that you can only bank in multiples of 1000 and that you have to go back and withdraw it in order to use it which is perfectly fine. I've never used the blasted thing and the only purpose I could see it serving would be trading pixels which is unlikely with what is basically a 40% tax and for building a house outta money which would be cool and all but I don't even know if you can place em as blocks which if you can't (which you probably can't) would negate that use as well.

Yes, but only with the industrilization mods Mk4 Refinerry which gives you back 100% of your compressed pixxels.

Mainly I just accumulate pixels as I need them. Ores via refinery are great for that if running across a planet didn't fare well otherwise. Often I spend them as I get them from scanning, but that's about it. Compressors are a tad too lossy.
