If any of you have played Guild Wars 2, Vindictus, or Dragon Nest, you will know what I'm talking about. I want the developers of Starbound to add a way to double tap a or d, and dash in that direction. This would be preferably a tech, as not every person is going to want this. Also, it would balance it out. Tanky guy vs. Ninja = ? The Tank wouldn't always win, because from what I have seen from it, it would be very hard for the ninja to get in close. Also, it adds a way for people to get in close to archers/gunners. Instead of getting shot all the time, you could jump up, and in mid-air, you can dash towards them. It would improve the gameplay a lot in my opinion, because there has to be a way for people with not much armor to fight without dying. :catface2:
This is a good idea, maybe instead of double tapping a or d you can tap the left mouse button twice so it would be easier? If they don't add this into Starbound you have to also look at the wings and flying items they are adding into the game you can just have that on and when your getting really hurt by a enemy you just fly away completely or fly a short distance to recover heath then come back to fight once again. The system mostly likely will repeat and repeat.
They could make it so in combat, all the jet-packs do is make the dashes faster and further, that way people cant just run away
I disagree with double-clicking, since both mouse buttons are for using held items. But, double tapping a or d should work fine.
In a thread called expanded attack, i have made some suggestions about dodging. When you have knives you will be able to evade and counter. If you dont have a knife or a shield, you will be able to do a dash back. Heres the thread http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/expanded-attack.5396/unread
Oh I approve of this very much. On balancing: perhaps it should be innate ability, but without enhancements it has pretty short range / noticeable cooldown (up to 5 seconds). But with right armor and additional equipment it could be way more powerful. Also, by default it should be usable only on ground, not in midair, because how, but various equipment like jetpacks or wings or whatever can make it possible to jump and dodge.
That would make sense, but short dodging without equipment I wouldn't really like. I think that the dodge should at least go 4-5 blocks. With jetpacks, maybe 6-7. The cool-down is also too long. The cool-down would probably be around 2 seconds. With equipment, maybe the length is shortened, because some people will specialize in that kind of defense, whereas people who just use really bulky armor and no dodging equipment would have the regular cool-down.
