I think it would be fantastic to have a Doctor Who themed quest line. I am not sure how one would make this fit into the story or even if it had to at all. After you finish the quest line you could get a sonic screwdriver. Maybe it would take u on an adventure all throughspace and time similar to how The Doctor and his companions do it.

    EDIT:

EDIT: Maybe a character/NPC similar to the doctor in nature and personality (David Tennant being my favorite) gives u a quest to go out and find a mystical item. An item that still eludes him to this day. You begin your mission and run into many speed bumps along the way(other people/beings wanting the same item, having to actually find the item based on clues you finding lore, etc.) This quest takes you all around the universe and to all sorts of places allowing you to explore and be given the opportunity to level up gear/new items. In the end you reach your quest giver and you have 2 options give him the item and receive your reward or take the item for yourself and have to fight him in a fight to the death. while doing all of this your mission could take to places maybe inspired by Doctor who or place that have the same feel.

Just thought it would be a cool idea.

    :O
    YES?!
Maybe at the end, instead of the sonic screwdriver, you get the tardis as your spaceship!

Well, problem with this would be copyright infringement...

Could be...the way to get round it, have the police box but paint it a different colour, change the interior and change the name.

Nobody loves DW more than me, and because of that love I think that player should definitely NOT get a Tardis. Maybe a screwdriver. Or a gun, constructed from Dalek ray emitter. Or something like that. Sure, it will be nice to have DW cameos — we already have hairstyles of all the Doctors, and will probably get vanity clothing for some. But never forget that the Doctor himself is ridiculously overpowered character, he is the embodiment of Mary Sue, the one done right, and he is awesome because of this. And the Tardis is ridiculously powerful ship, with completely broken abilities. Players should never be able to reach the Doctor in power level.

Then again, I hope that Glitch will have Dalek and Cyberman heads as appearance options. As for the screwdriver... maybe it could be some sort of extremely advanced utility tool, usable for electricity layouts and more.

    Short Answer: No.
    Long answer: It'd probably...
...well I see you've pointed that out.
I personally dislike the idea to begin with, since I don't think the universes of starbound and DW really need to collide in any ways.

Well, I actually think this is a good idea, but
    1. As raised by a bunch, COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT
    2. The Doctor, as a character, is not the most powerful in the series, yet he is STILL OP
    3. The TARDIS is more of a time travel device, and in a game, the time travel mechanics have to be realistic, and that is TOO HARD
    4. There are a bunch more, but I don't have the time to raise them. Someone else do it

It would be fantastic if the glitch had a similar back story to the Cybermen like part human part robot. Gives me chills.

I didn't want the quest line to be an exact rip off/replica of doctor who just have similar nuances or mentions that hinted that stroy may have been inspired by Doctor Who. Lastly, I don't think that you should receive a TARDIS as a quest reward. While it would be awesome to fly around in it, it is incredibly OP and is meant to be by nature. The quest reward could some how be show related artifact and idk if a sonic screw driver is the best option. It could be anything. I would love suggestions and ways to flesh out the quest line.

Thanks everyone for your input. :)

Considering the copyright problems it might be better for a time travel quest and maybe some Dr. Who References

Another problem with this idea is, simply put, there is no real middle-ground for how this character is portrayed. No matter which Doctor you have as the model, someone is going to complain and insist that their Doctor should be put in. Even if you include them all, or have them randomly appear as the one to give the quest, someone's going to complain about it. Even if the Doctor isn't around much, it...well, would cause problems.

As noted above, a time travel mechanic wouldn't really work well in this situation, as it would either require rerolling worlds, taking existing ones and taking them forwards (ignoring what changes you've made) or...well, simply put, it's a rather daunting concept, especially for randomly generated worlds.

Copyright would also provide a problem, but that has been done to death already, so let's skip over that problem.

As for what quest there could be...actually, there's a lot that could be done. Cybermen invading on certain worlds, converting human worlds or killing off other races, and in general being a nuisance. Daleks appearing, killing everyone. The Master, even, making a doomsday weapon. Lots here, but it would need to be handled carefully.

Overall, this seems more like something that would work better for a mod. However, I do like the idea of a villain of some description appearing in the story, and the player needing to defeat them. The Doctor could, in fact, just be a message that gets through, warning you of this event and sending something to you to deal with them (such as, say, the Sonic Screwdriver), a tool that acts as the reward in itself; this would have the effect of avoiding the aforementioned problem regarding the incarnation and depiction of the Doctor. Anything beyond that, though, should be saved as an alternative to using a ship as a transport (I've even posted something to that effect), perhaps with a sonic screwdriver tool too.

I did not mean to recreate the who world of Doctor Who in a single quest line. That would be ridiculous. I just thought it would be mighty cool if i could interact with a character that acted similarly to how the doctor is portrayed in the series. Maybe have hints that the quest was inspired by Doctor Who.

That is appreciable; I still feel this could be somewhat better off as a mod, though, as it allows you better control over what is done (and it's less on the Devs to worry what's actually copyright infringement or not). More content too, like having Cybermen and other races as, well, races that can spawn in.

A mod sounds mighty cool and maybe in the end it is the best option if you want complete control on how you want to build the quest line.

Im not saying that it should include all planets but on a certain planet/planets you find a temple that moves you back in time it dosent really affect anything since they already have a system to randomize planets and since an undiscribed amount of time has passed anything could happen the only real thing needed is the temple and u cant leave the planet since your ship is int there yet

  19. SLN

    SLN Void-Bound Voyager

also concerning the cyber men if u recall the main story an unknown race destroys your world it could be a randomly generated unplayable race that invades worlds from time to time and u have to fend them off your planet else they wipe(naturally this should have an option to be only in hard or turned off in the options and still only happen late game)

I see a buncha problems here, the main thing being... you know. COPYRIGHT.
then, i personally find this to be more suited to being a mod, rather than a part of the actual game. 'cause this literally screams of a fan's wet dream.
I don't quite like it as an idea to the game itself, so make it a mod.
