He was acting as a previously unknown reincarnation of one of the War doctors. The War Doctor comes from Christopher Eccelstones time as the doctor himself.

John Hurt only played a dark incarnation of the doctor that was between the Eighth and nineth incarnations, He was not a doctor himself. (He wouldn't even have been starring in the show had Christopher decided to play his part in the 50th Anniversary anyway)

On a lighter note, I'm still fangasming over Tom Bakers part in the 50th Anniversary

Hairstyles have been around for awhile, I believe they are part of the Human Easter Egg series?

What are you talking about ? the time war happened before the original doctor who series began, that'd make hurt's war doctor the "first" doctor for all purpose and intent. What he did during the war is part of the reasons he started wandering around the universe, creating the doctor who series hereby.
That also dosent make hurt any less of a doctor than all the other 11 one.

If you were listening on the epic 50th, You would have heard Hurt say he ISNT the doctor.

 

yeah okay, ill admit i was wrong on that part but my initial point still stand, i said it would be cool if they added capaldi and hurt's hairstyle and you retorted that the latter wasent a "doctor". no indeed, you were right, he is a warrior.
BUT, he is still "THE" Doctor, short of a proper gallifreyan name to give him, it was still the same time lord played by so many actors before.

So yeah, John Hurt still played the role of the time lord we all love, the character itself was cool and thats why i was suggesting that initially.

alright, but if you see a situation like that again in the future, may i suggest also posting a reliable source backin gup the claim ? not only does it give more credit to the post, it also ensures your interlocutor cant doubt the information and see he is wrong.
the "get it right" might haver have also be seen as rude by quicker tempered individuals than me
