Geek correction... Capaldi is the 13th...

 

Wrong. Hurt's War Doc is not the 9th -- Eccleston is. Then comes Ten-nant, and Matt Smith's 11th. Thus Capaldi is the 12th version of the guy to call himself Doctor.

It's really very simple. War Doc is not the 9th Doctor because he'd lost the right to call himself "Doctor". In the prequel, he outright threw the name away. And in the special, he redeemed himself temporarily. Because of timeline shenanigans, noone'd remember he'd earned back the Name of the Doctor. Not even he.

And that's sad.

Capaldi is the 13th doctor yes, but the 14th regeneration as tenant regenerated twice. so technically shouldn't exist - all should be explained at Christmas

Which means Capaldi is actually the 14th. I correct myself. Matt Smih is the 13th.

The Tennant hand is considered a regeneration even though he did not change.
