I say, a death marker would be useful as an interesting sub-item to equip, as long as It could be utilized at the maximum of once or twice at a time. Furthermore it would have to be manually activated, so that not every death after that point overwrites.
Those would be my conditions of accepting a grave stone/marker.

How about instead of a gravestone appearing, your body just flops to the ground when you're dead and then after a set amount of time, it turns into a skeleton. That is unless you die like in Terraria and just explode to pieces, I guess.

I would not mind the grave markers. Especially if they have amusing things on them about your death. However I would like to see them either decay or have one replaced every time you die so you only have one grave stone at a time per player.

Well, the only problem with "amusing things," is that after you read a few you start getting repeats...
And I don't really want the devs wasting time making thousands of death messages.

Really? Some funny shiz could come from this! It's not that hard to copy and paste the same lines of code to slightly alter for each instance. Heck, even if not too many are in by release, they can passively put more in each update, right?

You could logically throw procedural generation in with this, though even that is only a standoff measure, plus it tends to lead to slightly less cohesion.

Basically what you do is instead of say...
Bombzero was killed by a Virorb.
    in code it says...
[player] was [death typed] by a(n) [adjective] [creature]
with appropriate lists for each category, this also opens up the option of players just dumping in words to a list to expand on the possible combinations.

Generating sayings won't do much in the terms of amusing though.
Personally I would never even read the sentences. If you died there earlier, it is most likely a dangerous area.
I doubt I would have the time to read my grave. :p

What about looking back? You know, It was an early game planet, you had lots of trouble with it back when you were a noob, but then you can go back as a level 9001 guy and look at the funny crap generated!
Why not reminisce at all the times you threw your keyboard at the wall? "XxSEPIROFFFxX was mauled by a PRETTY Cloud monster" will bring back the best of memories!

No. I just don't like them, and i think that they are really unnecessary.

So why deprive others of what they want when it is just a minority who don't?

It's just my opinion, nothing more.

Having graves and sayings and stuff is more good than bad.
It is worse for our worlds to be spammed with graves, than for you to lose the chance of reading something that tells you how someone died.

Your world WILL NOT be spammed with graves! Heck, most people voted for the option "Yes, but I want the spam to be fixed."

And the way people seem to want the spam fixed, is by graves being deleted after a set time/your second death.
    Earlier you said:
What I'm saying is that a situation like that won't be possible with the spam solution people want. So basically you will be deprived of having a reminiscents like that. Which in a way seems kind of sad to me... But spam also does mess with my head.
Oh, if only everything had a simple solution. :p

  16. Eddy Steel

    Eddy Steel Existential Complex

You could set it in settings. That's a simple solution.

Yes, I suppose. Although on multiplayer worlds there would have to be an extra solution.
