It should be released when it's ready. I don't care how long I have to wait as long as the end product is worth it.

To you people who say 2016, you're bitter aren't you.
Realistically I'm looking more towards the May-August area although I don't regard a Q1 release as an impossibility.

I voted the earliest just because I want it to be released soon. :)

The release window was "Early 2013" - so long as they get it out by the end of April, I consider that a success. I think that's doable.

Personally though? I believe they should take as much time as they think they need to finish the base game, and do it right. All extraneous features and content-suggestions that aren't part of Starbound's base gameplay can be rolled into a post-release DLC, or even several post-release DLCs.

If Starbound has robust modding tools, then implementing new features and content after release should be easy, for both devs and players.

Tiy wrote, game will be released in Q1 - max Q2 this year, so don't panic guys! Don't panic!

I'm checking out everyday for "game released today! surprise! you didn't expect it today, huh?!" X3

  8. Official release will be some time April-June, that's my guess. Maybe a beta around March-April.
Next year is out of the question, I hope.

They already said the Pre-order/Pre-order Beta isn't going to be finish for Q1, which means most likely Q2, which leaves the initial release of the game in Q3-Q4 or at the earliest late Q2.

The development team already stated that they have been laying out a 'roadmap' or plan. They also already said they aren't going to be adding in new features until post release now, since if they keep adding things, the game will never be done. Tiy also said, that the coding and game mechanics take the most to get in. Take the armor for example, he said that the code for it, takes around a month or two to get done, then adding in the actual armors, less then a week. So I believe they're at the point of just adding in the content and picking out bugs, fleshing out the AI, stuff like that. This stuff takes time so I'm going to estimate around May, maybe early Autumn.

I highly doubt that it won't be done by next year, with how much is already done, it shouldn't take that long.

  10. Well, actual release in comparison to beta depends on two things. (1) How far along the game actually is when it enters beta, and (2) How much actual "beta testing" will actually get done. I'd say it would be safe to assume that a beta could be released at the beginning of Q2, and we'd have a full release around the end of Q2.

Let's be honest. At least 75% of the people on these forums are going to Pre-Order as soon as possible.

Naturally. I plan to pre-order as soon as I can as well. =P

But yeah, I know, I'm just giving a more generous time frame rather then. IT BETTER BE OUT AT HE END OF THE SECOND QUARTER. Because after Beta, there's going to be, most likely, at least 2-3 months before proper release. The beta is, hopefully, going to be the full sandbox game, which means they just need to add the story in, which shouldn't take more then a month or two. This is just speculation and opinion after all so we'll just have to wait and see.

  12. Well, I just keep telling myself that the later the release, the better the game.
But people have been hearing unrealistic timeframes, and have been waiting around awhile, so I can see why people are getting a little impatient.

First release date was end of 2012 - or even earlier, I'm not sure. Worst is that - we don't know when it will finally come. Tiy mention something about max Q2 this year. But still - nothing is sure.

I don't blame devs - they want to make great game - good for us! But I (and I'm sure not only me) will really want this game released soon - about week? :p

  15. Well, there never was an actual release date. It was always just an estimate. And the first release date I'd heard was Summer 2012, believe it or not. :p

oooh man...I's so happy I - literally - forgot about this game for almost year! Because now I's so hyped X3

We may only hope that Starbound will not be second Duke Nukem Forever

It makes me wonder why the devs even bothered even suggesting a release date like Summer or late 2012, perhaps they thought they were really close... Or, that they were close, but then decided to implement more things into the game that have greatly extended that timeframe.

I personally voted for 2014, but it would be nice to see a release this year. The updates are coming together nicely, but complications can happen, and I can't imagine a release later in the year would be able to attract much attention. Silly fall season containing a big pile of games.

I used to think that way about Aliens and Duke Nukem, and I was dead wrong.

Here's a thought, what if they just abandon the project and just act as a publisher? It's not like they don't already have three games now.

I really dislike this loop, not that it's a bad one...just somewhat demotivating. Here's to hoping they can dish out the final build out by mid year.

It would help if they do publish more games, but it shouldn't stop them from doing what they enjoy as well or passionate about: game making. Doing both definitely adds a lot more to their list of achievements as both a publisher and a game developing company. Was kinda hoping Aliens: CM could live up to Dead Space, but tough luck I guess. Thankfully some games are worth waiting for, even if it has to be pushed back somewhat.
