Do you Planet-hop or Do you Colonize Planets?

I'm one of the space nomads, collecting different plants, trees and creatures (I'd create an arboretum on board if it were possible) from across worlds. On those occasions that I need a place on a planet (usually for storage) I prefer to take over existing unoccupied structures, though I might build one on ocean planets someday since they don't have any to take over.

I might consider a small colony somewhere once the system is up and running in stable.

Been thinking of colonizing particularly dangerous planets for safety and the spite of it. Gods know I have enough cobblestone.

I just want to have an Anti Meteor Defense System that negates meteor spawns for X blocks surrounding it.. I would colonize meteor infested planets in a heartbeat if I had one.. All purely for your reasons stated.. Survival and spite.. Also, colonizing a planet with dangerous weather keeps things interesting.. Not only do you need to take shelter from the critters that prowl the lands, but also from the weather! Now that I think about it, there are more than just meteors that can damage/break blocks now, right? Just call it Anti Weather Defense System or something similar..

i hog materials. go from planet to planet.

i like to think that, some day, i'll settle in a planet while i explore the rest of the universe (how i miss that "random" button), but since i started playing wayyyy back in the day, i haven't done that at all.

    except for once.

it was short-lived though. as soon as i settled,
the game updated and i lost all of my work xD
so for now, i hog materials. go from planet to planet.

PS: i lost 'the game'.. and now so did you.

It's a process. I've gotta hop for a little while to build up materials and such for when I DO decide to start building. Once I set to building a colony, however, I'll try to ring the planet with houses/decoration before I leave. I generally set up a small crafting area on every planet I decide to build on just so that I don't always have to return to the ship for materials.

I go to a planet, meet everything, take what I can from the surface.. If I need to I build a house and a small place before I dig down. Once I have what I need, I go back to the colony, then a new planet.

My ship is huge, well-stocked and nicely furnished - the only thing I have build on a planet is my little vineyard - mah kitty likes grapes :3

Made a cobblestone tower going back up to the surface of the poison ocean mine I made. Only thing is mobs are spawning in it! >_< good thing I have slime torches though. They're BRIGHT!

Think I'll keep this up as a place to dump my cobblestone.

I'm an explorer by heart, so yeah, I planet-hop like nothing else! But when, during that, I find interesting planets with good possibilities, I will colonize them for all my different characters. Plus the starter planet has a huge base on it with all the crafting tables and machines in it and tons of storage containers with all kinds of items and objects and such, so I can just go there when I need to pick up anything on any of my characters =~_^= And I built an apartment building there as well with a room plus small storage room for all my characters.
    *chuckles*
And to keep things "organized", I tend to build bases on planets as far apart from each other as possible.

I used to planet hop a lot, and I got bored of it. I find that it's more fun to build tiny little outposts on each planet that take like 10-15 mins to build. You can build science stations for roleplaying scientists, or the like. If you are roleplaying a savage floran build a small thatch hut with a campfire in it that's overgrown. I do that a lot now with my chars, plus it helps if you play on a harder difficulty and you lose ores, it can be a base camp to store ores for transporting to your ship/homebase.

I do both. If I'm in the mood, I'll colonize; if I'm looking for something, planet hopping it is.

I usually like building structures on some of my favorite planets, but after that's done I go planet hopping for a while too.
