Have not found the need to Grind once in this game.
If you called mining a hell of a lot to try and get enough gold for the gold armour set grinding then I guess I have and I guess I didnt mind it to much .

But generally I am having a shed load of fun in this game and have not felt like anything was grindy

What are you talking about? Grinding is plentiful in Starbound. Mining is time-consuming in finding ores, several things to craft require large amounts of materials, pixels are significant to your game (although like Kriptini had said, pixels aren't that hard to find).

And I'd also argue that Starbound does have a form of character progression, with upgrading your armor, weapons, acquiring tech, and progressing to higher leveled planets.

I am not sure this game was for you, if you feel that way.
Grinding is when you have to kill 500 of the same enemies to reach the next area.
By just exploring the game you find the materials you need. None of which classifies it self as grinding.

Grinding in the case of mining would be if an ore regenerates and you keep hitting it for more ore.

Grind can serve as a good incentive to innovate around it.
But usually, it's just completely unnecessary padding.

GRINDING: (of a state) oppressive, tedious, and seemingly without end. Starbound has all of this.

I can't answer your poll since I didn't grind for pixels at all, I've easily walked away from many planets with way too many pixels in a very short amount of time and without ever digging for anything.

Pixels are not the only thing you can grind for. The hunt for gold comes to mind (at least for me and many others).

I dislike grinding, but I've found it easier in Starbound because as far as I can tell, monsters give you the same amount of pixels regardless of their level. If I need money I just go all the way around a Level 1 moon a few times, slaughtering everything that moves. Get a couple hundred pix. per time around.

If i accepted your loose definition of grinding, Every game under the sun has grinding.
Basketball - throw the ball into the same hoop. WtF!!!??! why can't we throw other things into the hoop?!
CoD - Shoot the same team of villians with GUNS?!?@ Why can't I use a baseball strapped with tnt?!
Halflife - Why do I have to kill aliens over and over and over?@ Why can't i bake a cake?@#!

ya.... you need to understand what grinding is. Or just say grinding = game.

The devs already know that some ores have spawn problems, but I for one didn't really have that problem as I figured higher level worlds would have higher amounts of certain ores and I was right, I was rolling in gold ore and even platinum within a time span of ten minutes.

I don't mind it at the moment but i know at end game it will annoy me to the back teeth having to grind pixels just to use the 3D printer for a new project i wanna work on.

I dislike using the bubble boost to sweep a planet's surface, looking for Apex jump dungeons to gather all of the techs. I expect that they'll add a wider variety of ways to obtain tech chips, though, which will remove this problem. Pixels don't bother me ATM, since your income later in the game is high enough to counter any prices at the 3D printer, and shops have very manageable prices, too.

grinding for the sake of grinding (like money grinding) sucks, but i don't care for like, unique drops like weapons and armor, unless it's like 0,001% of drop like some items in phantasy star online and Ragnarok Online.

hell i don't even mind to grind for rathalos plates/rubies.

i do hate money grinding, god it's awful.
also tedious tasks like scouring for minerals away from the pre-made tunnels in games like Minecraft, Terraria and starbound, it's just hold the mouse button for hours.

    Grinding is good.

The reasons are as follows. Though it may be tedious to some, it's still work, an working towards something you want is a greater reward than having something given to you.

There are far too many games out there that hand out everything easily because it is "fun", but that is not always the best way to go about getting the fun out of the game. If grinding didn't exist, getting everything early would be the norm and games would be far too short and unchallenging.

A medium grind, is what I always like. I don't like things that make you literally put 100s of hours into just digging things up or levelling a certain skill in a game, but too short and it immediately feels you've been granted something for almost nothing.

Now what I've mentioned above doesn't necessarily revolve around pixels, but pixel grabbing is not grinding in any sense. They are abundant, can be hit with a sword and are drops by mobs, so as you do other things you're given them anyway. Since there is a refinery as well, pixels are even easier to get in larger numbers too.

We won't know how the pixel quantity pans out in future. For instance, later in the game when you're doing high level worlds, who's to say you won't need ridiculous amounts of pixels to craft?

And yes, Item grinding (even if quite lengthy) is worth it, cash grinding (though it isn't a problem in Starbound) is boring.

    :)

One thing about this game that I do dislike. Platinum pickaxes and Cobblestone mining speed. There seems to be very little difference when digging through that stuff. Sometimes I think Obsidian mines faster than Cobblestone.

If it feels fun, which seems to hard to accomplish, then I don;t mind.
When I'm very much aware of what I'm doing and how long it's taking, it's not done well and it's enough to make me quit the game.

Well the whole goal of those games is to do that one thing. It could be considered a grind but its always fun and it is to be expected. In basketball no TNT is involved so your logic is invalid for literally everything you tried pulling.

If you have a skewed interpretation of this so be it.

Since I obtain most of my pixels through the refinery, I don't think I've ever had to grind anything past digging for ores and occasionally clearing a dungeon. I suppose you could call that grinding, but mining and killing stuff is roughly two thirds of the game.

Grinding is not fun, but it doesn't bug me to much, for I honestly feel more content will be added in within a few weeks which will cut down on grinding and make it roe fun to explore the weird biomes out there...like that weird flesh biome i found once.

Yes, I found massive deposits of platinum on high level worlds, I found one that had at least forty pieces of ore. The same with titanium, I found one ore vein that took up a quarter of my screen at zoom level 2.
