In my idea you could craft a a small machine that would take DNA out of things like monsters, Npcs, rocks (Because things die), trees and water which then with other special machines you could make a pet, repopulate a dead planet or have an ultimate showdown with ancient beasts! Unless you took DNA off a living animal you would have no idea what you collected! You could make beasts that walked on that world billions of years ago! sound cool???????
I dislike taking things from rocks, trees, and water, and I dislike injecting yourself. But it would be cool if you could build a replication machine like the one you see when you die and have it rebuild aliens. That way you could collect your favorite samples from across the universe.
I don't know about the injecting yourself, but otherwise this sounds great. Have a DNA Extractor (maybe something like the brain extractor, but does no damage and doesn't have to kill to create the sample), and a Cloning Machine that takes your DNA sample and makes creatures out of them. And I don't know about taking DNA from rocks either. But don't forget, one of the stretch goals was fossils. And even though it isn't strictly accurate, it'd be cool if cloning the creatures they came from was one use for fossils.
maybe there could be a slightly different procedural generation for any creatures made from fossil DNA
