No to paying DLC, yes to a fan shop to fund building free DLCs.
A fan shop with mugs, t-shirts, naked girls, flesh eating plants, ... would be a great addition to the game imo.

Paying for content is not a bad thing, don't forget that. Development takes money, and the devs getting profit from it encourages more development, and gives more life for the game. A game that releases nothing but free updates doesn't support itself if it has no other ways to make money.

And more life for the game means customers get more out of the product they already paid for. The problem with DLC is that they usually don't justify their price.

What I want is an old school expansion like D2's Lord of Destruction. Content that actually deepens the game is what I'm willing to pay for. The Binding of Isaac's Wrath of the Lamb is an example of a modern well done expansion.

There could be DLC in the future, but i doubt we would have to pay for it since Tiy does not like the idea of paying for DLC. Either way with the updates for content and the team working on starbound even after release to give us new things added into the game i seriously doubt there would be any need to add a stand alone content pack of any form. We might get the option of downloading the content we want and not everything. which woulda been more nice on mc due to the rpg elements system

The next elder scrolls shall be fun then xD

But paying for additional content IS a bad thing if that content should have been in the game in the first place! Remember that there is a difference between an expansion and DLC. Mainly is the fact that DLC is content often removed from games and ransomed off. Pre-DLC is an example of such horror and is a tactic being used currently and will continue in the near future (EA has said they will take this route). Another example is Naruto Storm for PS3, among other games, where content was disabled only to be enabled if DLC was purchased. I remember there was talk of some RPG that ripped out it's ending which could only be seen if DLC was purchased.

TL;DR DLC is evil... expansion packs are good

Pretty sure there'll be a DLC tool that allows you to adjust boob size.

Well, seeing as Tiy ISNT going to go the micro transaction route, (he IS actually going to continue to update the game with the dev team for a year and then put a support group on it) and personally I dont blame him; it looks like all you DLC shippers get the shaft.

Believe me, DLC in a game like this may sound like itd please alot of people, but you must remember; theyre making this game to be quite easy to mod. Im guessing Tiy and the team is under the impression that it wouldnt pay to have DLC because itd be a situation of: "If I can do this, the fanbase can likely do it better" And while it does mean they lose money on that venture, they gain something far more important for a budding company: Fans. Fans are the people who are more likely to pay into your future ventures. Fans built Minecraft, they built Okamis reputation, and it sustains Mario.

Putting DLC into your first, big, upcoming title is much like being a vampire: It doesnt sparkle much, it turns people off of it (this has happened with my consumer choices) and it just plain sucks. (Your wallet dry) I mean, look at EA.

DLC was originally a good thing, much of what it accomplished was good. I remember when a paltry 8 bucks got me a bunch of thrilling maps for halo. I remember 10 bucks raising the fallout level cap and extending the story. DLC shiuld always be content that is of the same caliber of the original title but smaller in size for a portion of the price. DLC tiger print AK47? Burn it. DLC maps and levels? Hell yeah. DLC "cheat codes" like big head mode? Screw that. DLC missions, characters and loot? Cool with that. DLC asking 2.99 $ to unlock content easily obtained by playing story mode? Good god no.

There is such a thing as good DLC, if a company makes it free, hooray, if not, jusy don't buy it if you don't think it's worth the same as a big mac meal with a large coke, (seriously, around the same price). Just because you bought a gane doesn't mean you can stomp your feet and throw a tantrum, it's usually 5-15$ and it's the company's right to charge you if they feel that this new content was enough time abd effort that they think it's worth seven dollars.

Seriously, if you don't like Dlc, don't buy it. But don't act all entitled and betrayed about it
