Distress beacon

I just spent so much time and effort finding the required resources to craft a distress beacon... I interacted with it and a giant ufo one shotted me. My time and effort is gone. The distress beacon is not there. WTFF???

They did warn us twice to be ready for anything, though the same happened to me first run lol.

Unfortunately, you have to make another Beacon

Make sure you have the best armor and weapons you can currently craft before you try again, though. He shouldn't even come close to one shotting you if you do.

Anyway, the distress beacon is an item that's used to summon the boss of that sector. Upon defeating you gain access to the next sector, allowing you to advance in the game. In the current stage of Beta, the quest progression makes it appear to unsuspecting players that you need to craft the distress beacon in order to leave the planet you're on, such is not the case. You can fuel your ship with coal in order to travel to new planets and to gain more ores and gear.

So the UFO that one-shotted you was the boss of that sector. Apologies for your troubles, but you'll need to regather the materials and prepare yourself for a battle.

 

Would be nice if, after you have beaten the UFO once, that the distress beacon had a chance to spawn a mini-UFO that drops random and rare loot, but is still as hard as the UFO..

Would only drop items / loot level of early sector 2 though... Maybe a hefty chunk of pixels per kill...

 

You can use coal to fuel your spaceship. Explore the galaxy some more, getting better equipment, so the UFO won't be a problem anymore.

 

Well, I have full copper gear with an iron hunting bow and a fishslicer sword. The iron supply on the easy planets(for me in my sector) are pretty bad. I can't make better gear. If I go to those planets with like threat level 9 im owned

You should find plenty of iron if you dig deep enough, but as dionysus pointed out, you can use your coal and go to another planet if you just can't find any. (Other planets in the same system have a very low fuel cost.)

Every planet in Alpha Sector is Threat Level 1 now, by the way, so no worries on hitting a threat 9.

 

You'll have to craft another one I'm afraid! This happened with me on my first run. I was so excited I could interact with many furniture items by pressing "e" that I went and did that to my beacon. That was on my base. While I had no armor.

At first I thought, Oh! We're saved! Then, Ow! Why's it hitting me?! Oh, the penguins are here to help me fight this thing! Yeah, let's go penguins!! Man, their AI sucks, they keep aiming at me.... MY BASE!!!! IT'S GONE!! OH GOD THE PAIN!!!! Rinse and repeat 4 more deaths and it finally despawned.

Gathering the supplies shouldn't be too hard with the ore balancing fix. My boyfriend and I now make a bunker out of dire stone or obsidian, and make a small arrow shooting hole on the top to kill it. Just make sure you have back up materials to fix your base, and that you have the best armor and weapons you can get at the time.
