He starts painfully pulling himself towards the side of the building with his good arm, cutting himself up a bit more
Tekari pulls himself onto the concrete edge and swings his feet over, dropping onto the fire escape with a *thud* "ow"
'Some backwater planet called New Venice. It was nothing like the name implies, just a few districts of exorbitantly rich and thousands of slums.'
The building looks to be 23 stories tall, but as a plus, your hip popped back in place, with a considerable amount of pain.
"I hail from Tveildas myself. Similar case for me, except on the scale of the whole Hylotl controlled star system. One planet was for the rich, one for the slums, the rest for the workers... What about your heritage?"
'My parents were refuges from Earth, I was born in a shuttle on the way to the transport ship. I don't really have a home. I've been wandering for a long time.' She sighs wistfully. 'It's a shame, I had heard that the beauty of Earth was surpassed by few planets.'
Zephyr gazed out of her window and into the city, taking in the view. "Wow, so far so good," she said with a smile. Xael nodded and turned to Jerry. "Do you know of anything like that," she asked.
"As I have been told... Neither of my parents were from Treiach, the Sallokian homeworld... They were both born into slave camps, but somehow escaped. Both ended up at the slums of Tveildas. My father grew to become a political marvel and one of the few that abstained from corruption... Ironically, my mother was a prostitute and a murderer... No idea how they grew to eventually hitch. Probably for political reasons... So, how'd you group to become such a talented thief..."
'It started out as a necessity to survive. My parents weren't exactly the most profitable of people, and put supporting the family on me and my brothers. First just food, then as we got better we started to escalate in value what we were taking. After a few heists, we were caught. They let me go, after of course watching my brothers flayed to death in front of me. Said I would "send a message" to the slums. I left soon after that, hitched a ride on the first ship leaving.'
"I never had any siblings... Not that I know of anyway... When the gov started cutting off supplies to the slums, people began to riot...when it escalated to a warlike scale, my parents had me smuggled off planet to be raised and trained under the tutorship of my mother's old master Taipei... His method for picking students from the many that came was a brutal one... And that is when I met 'Baussil'... Or rather, released him... You've met him before... Last night..."
She shivers slightly. 'Yes, he was a sight. I only saw the aftermath and a clip from the cameras, but it looked... brutal.' The ground beneath your feet starts feeling sticky.
At the last floor, the building begins to crumble, the fire escape shaking as the top few floors start falling apart, collapsing into the center of the building. The car turns around. 'New orders, our job is to control rioting in this sector, we don't want it getting too out of hand.'
"I'm sorry you had to see that... Hopefully, next month we can be more prepared for it when it happens..." He lifts up his foot and peers at the bottom of it... flicking out his tongue and tasting the air a bit...
