Truth, though you could make some sweet light armor out of them, or weave them on the inside of the trench coat. They won't exactly block bullets, as the bird had them tightly packed enough to do that, but they should block knife slashes and a few stabs just fine.

 

hell, they were sweet light armor even when bein transported
