These are not Disabilities in the sense of the word, Ailments is a better word. A Disability would be inability to use one of your hands, or blindness, as examples.
Disability -A physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities. Technically he is right, so we should probably drop that subject.
From the title I was expecting it to be something else. I want hardcore wheelchair runs! Also my cousin would agree so he can play a likeness of himself! He always thinks it would be funny to have that option in games.
They're probably better of being called debuffs, since I wouldn't classify most of those as disabilities.
Wheelchair mode would be AWESOME! Maybe even better than Penguin mode? You can't jump, so you need to build ramps everywhere. You can't use your hands while moving because you need to operate the wheels. Later on you can upgrade to a power chair, freeing up one arm while moving. Jet Packs can be used to make up for having no jumps, once you get them. Eventually you might even get a hover-chair like the one Charles Xavier uses, allowing you about the same mobility as someone without Wheelchair mode. I need to make a suggestion thread for this now.
Oh, I totally can see groups of people who will take such option totally wrong way and will stir all kinds of the most foul feces around Starbound, calling it out on making fun of wheelchaired people and their disabilities, while much of regular playerbase will plain just look coldly at such feature as aside from one-time testrun, it will be relatively impractical and waste of development time in their eyes. Personally I have no problem with that but it really should be a mod - it plain caters to rather too narrow group.
Yeah, just like how everyone thinks Professor X and Oracle are making fun.[/sarcasm] If anyone complains about that, they simply don't know anyone who's confined to a wheelchair. The idea of being able to play as a badass handicapable hero is uplifting for disabled people, not to the contrary. EDIT: Of course, there will always be these kinds of people who complain about good things. -sigh- I don't think it would take much time to add into the game at all, not unlike Penguin mode. I expect it would be best as a mod as well, though.
The difference is that they're shown as just managing heroes who were bound to a wheelchair. In game it would be a choice for the sake of fun. Also, didn't say it would be right approach, just that I suspect there would be parties like that - people look for some potential shocker everywhere now. Don't recall anything about that penguin mode right now so I cannot compare how much harder or not it would be to add such thing.
It was one of the second proposed stretch goals for the preorders. It lost to Fossils. Basically you would play as a penguin, unable to wear humanoid armor, and unable to wield two-handed items.
