Yeah, that could work in an Eternal Engine sort of way :p

And yeah, been busy. Bought XenoBlade, Lone Survivor, and WARP... >_> Oh also life.

Actually I'm not even sure the core will be circular. I noticed in the list of known information it's listed as:
I can only presume that you can keep running as far left or right as you want but will eventually hit an invisible marker (like a variable called planetWidth on the _x axis) which loops you back to the other side of the map again, imitating a sphere. This could mean one of two things:

    - You dig down and reach an unbreakable surface / lava.
    - You dig down until you reach the core whereby the gravity is flipped and you start digging towards the opposite side of the map.

    Item idea! "Lickaxe" geddit?

sad part... you will likely die from the fall to the dance floor as you forgot to drink some feather-fall potion

Ohohohoho~ Silly Tomatha, living back in the age of Medieval Terraria, how quaint. We're talking about the future! Space! Science! WHo needs to brew feather-fall potions when we're all getting Jet Packs! And the kind that don't burn your butt too.

I don't think that we could fly into space from the beginning of our playing, though. I mean - without using ships.

Science says that when you approach the core you explode in a fountain of brainpellets... but science does not necessarily equal fun. Ultimate heat-pressure suit?
I'd personally like there to be dirt dirt rock rock rock semi-molten rock (valuable ore, magma pockets, other hazards) at which point you need heat/pressure protection to survive for any amount of time, then a layer of pure magma, then a solid near-impenetrable core. (best drill/pick/nuke/LAZOR in the game required to break it?)
And at the center... a single block of ore. Perhaps this is the "bedrock" that designates that this is a planet when everything else has been blasted to dust and filed into appropriate chests. Or perhaps there IS a way in, that the devs don't reveal. And the ore (which you need a hundred of) makes some form of uber-god gear. Sorry for the wall of text and possible derail.

Derail? Pffft... that's not a derail. I'll show you a derail.

    Digging.

You begin to hear retro sound effects as you make your way to the core of the planet, like the sound of an old gameboy playing softly in the distance. It gets darker, but you decide that you need to keep digging because it's imperative to your adventure. Every block that you break is one step closer to the core, and the rocks around you are getting harder to break. Suddenly you hear a cry in the distance:"Nyan" You turn around, but no ones there. You hear it again: "Nyan" . This time it echos around the narrow passage way that you've made. Curiosity courses through your veins, driving you to dig further into the ground, each broken block causing the noises draw closer. You don't even realize that you've started to dig in time to the music that surrounds you. Faster and faster. "Nyan. Nyan." The sounds calling out to you seem... mesmerizing.

It takes you a couple of seconds to realize that the floor has fallen beneath you and that you're falling at an incredible pace. The walls become blurry as you effortlessly fall towards the core of the planet, your feet desperately trying to find a way to stop you. You close your eyes and hear the music growing louder and louder, a deafening echo in your mind. It's all you can concentrate on in the midst of the darkness and fear. You feel your body come to an abrupt halt, but you're still hanging in the air as if an invisible thread were holding you up. Then you open your eyes.

    "Nyan."

A giant paw reaches out to you. You follow it with your eyes and realize that the paw is connected to a huge biscuity treat covered in purple sugar. Standing in front of you is a giant blushing cat with the body of a Pop-Tart. It's eyes gaze into yours, as if it's trying to tell you it wants to show you something. It keeps it's eyes perfectly fixated on yours whilst it slowly begins to circle you. It's legs start to move faster and rainbows spray out from it's sweet biscuit-like body. Music begins to twinkle in the dome shaped room, bouncing from wall to wall, causing sparks to fly. It opens it's huge feline jaw and begins to sing.

"Nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan "

The music fills your head telling you that you want to leave, but you're paralyzed. Stuck in the midst of time. Just as you think the giant cat has finished it's melody it begins again, effortlessly bouncing around the room singing it's song. You gaze around the edges of the room to see the skeletons of many brave adventurers like you.

Suddenly it dawns on you that curiosity didn't kill the cat. Curiosity is the cat.

It's... wonderful... *frantically tries to find a switchpoint to get back to sanity* Really though, my idea good? And getting gibbed when you go past an invisiwall is BORING

Yeah it's a very good idea, I think we can all agree on unbreakable walls being a bit of a letdown. I like the idea of having to progress through the game in order to reach further through. In Terraria I could just get to hellworld in a few minutes.

Perhaps when you turn up anywhere, there's a classic eerie space music and you can place blocks and otherwise there's nothing there. If a "bedrock" is detected then it's a planet with all associated Stuff-the type of planet is determined by blocks. This also allows for manual terraforming (got a forest planet, want a desert? Dig up all the dirt and let the sand rain!)

You make it down to the center and look up to see your kitten covering up the hole you made and kicking some nades down.

Anyway, there should be lower gravity. Because of physics.

Maybe un-stability for going to far? Like I dig a hold to the center that is 2 blocks wide. Wouldnt that cause problems?

  17. Saal

What does that mean? You won't cut planet in half if you do this :D

    I dig even deeper.
"okay, now, if that's what I think that is, that's just crazy!"
