i got a idea that each race might talk in gibberish if your not one of them (mabye not in multiplayer) and have to make a voice in hibbiter (some thing that lets you talk to them)
Well one would assume that in a galaxy where multiple alien races are confirmed that there would be some form of universal language or writing for better communication, sort of like English is becoming a global language even if some people only know the basics.
I actually do like the idea of only being able to understand the other languages if you get a study guide or something, but in other ways its i practice for co-op. Also, most scifi stuff uses the universal interpreter to explain why everyone can understand each other.
This is stoooopid. This gets you away from the game. And makes a knowledge be another icon in you "Knowledges" window. Our world have enough languages. If you wanna have different languages, then teach em to all the players. Так что нахуй идею пидорасы. > (Dont even try to translate. Hard russian)
Problem is, that would prohibit story progression if an important npc gives you a quest unless you have that item.
for the developed races of starbound I imagine they have developed a way to communicate w/ each other however for not as developed worlds I think this could be an interesting plot element...
Dont know how well that would work here but that is not unheard of. I've seens a space strategy game where you can research other species language in order to do diplomacy wiht them but also, until you get at least the first tech in the tree, any chat from other races show up as giberish, multiplayer included ( altough you can avoid that by talking to the game lobby ratter than the usual chat or send private message). I tought this was sort of cool tough and added to the dept of the game. And of course, each race giberish was unique to them.
i think a gibberish language should be included (for all races) until you find out how to speak and understand them. it makes total sense because we're talking about people multiple planets away, not to even mention Americans trying to talk to Russians or the Chinese.
Actually, it would be very nice if you could choose to talk in a sort of intergalactic common and in your race language whenever you only want other of your race to understand you.
Just like real life, when two people are talking to each other in a different language, then look at you and you're just sat there like
This is actually rather awesome. Allowing each race it's own individual language would provide an 'Atmospheric' element to the game, and like the Recipes, further differentiate the races. There's no reason to assume that having independent racial languages precludes the inclusion of a 'Common' language as well. This opens up a bevy of potential 'Progression' options for both the Devs, and the gamer. Perhaps you can opt 'not' to know the common language, for some trade off (Random Artifact to balance the difficulty you will have obtaining them from other races). And then the NPC's can also either know 'Only their' language, while others know the 'Common' as well. In fact, in an alien town, having the 'Low Level Quests' given by NPC's that know common, while the 'Higher Level' quests come from NPC's that only know their Racial Language creates a natural progression system that encourages interracial interactions (And this can be also tied into recipes... in fact, each found recipe can contribute a little to the language experience gauge. ;P)
I barely understood that sir. Maybe your knowledge window needs to be a tad bit bigger. Also on another note bay is correct on his translation . ON TOPIC: The idea is brilliant! It adds a language barrier into the game. This would be very fun in multi too. You could toggle it. It will take longer to communicate with other aliens, other than your own species. This would be lovely! I love it when the lore effects your game on a personal level like that.
