    Why?

    WHY?

    WHY?!

Why do you keep on turning Starbound to Terraria? What is wrong with you people? You could have made a unique game.

Difficulty setting de-valuates everything, when it comes to a game with item gathering, rare drops and multiplayer, PvP, even if it is just what happens at time of your death.

I really don't like the way this game is heading. You had it all in your hands, you could have create something magnificent, one of a kind and you keep on recycling the bullsh*t we've seen thousand times. You could have set a new path for gaming industry and you settle with Terraria 2:Cavebound begins. Some call this game next-gen.. no way. Still the same gen over and over. Next gen will happen when people grow some balls and stop counting money.

Expected truly hardcore exploration sci-fi sandbox, got another "game for kids".

To all die-hard carebear fans: I am already heading for door and I guess I will be out soon, because the course of this game seems not to change in the future.

So, you complain about the fact the game is getting easier yet dislike a difficulty setting? You do realise that the easiest difficulty will be the current mode, right? That the other difficulties make the game harder?

Also, I fail to see how providing choice for different tastes devalues the game. If anything, it enriches it.

Hmm, I wish I could empathise with you but I don't really understand. I'm not saying you are wrong about your decision but it doesn't seem concise to me, are you saying giving more options to the player is going to devalue the game? I personally think that is going to give the game a greater value for a lot of people, and give them a more meaningful experience. Whatever difficulty setting they choose to play on.

    That's just me, though.

    Look's like a terraria fanboy.
Difficulty is based on how far you progress in the game, otherwise you'll be wearing Armour that makes you invincible and weapons that one hit on mobs that are meant for beginners. BORING. I want them to continue as they are and up the difficulty more to the point even the best equips do 10% dmg at max. That'll be fun.
Also it increased risk for traveling to a sector = death = loss of pixles and a set back. Which is the point

Omg your totaly rite maien. Terraria created "difficulty". THIS MEANS EVERYTHING IS COPYING TERRARIA.

What? I guess you didn't get the memo. Game is getting easier overall, difficulty for this kind of game is bollocks. Other difficulties doesn't make the game harder (because only the loot thing), just frustrating and also if this game is gonna about trading and PvP between players, some players will be in advantage, like loot runs on easiest difficulty, so they don't loose the loot and then trade with players or dying in PvP and not loosing gear.

Yeah, I know you fail to see it.

Since it copies exactly the same loot difficulty Terraria uses... oh well..

The only thing it does for the game is add replay value, it doesn't hurt the game. Plus, this is the baseline for a game like this, it needs the standard difficulty levels.

OMIGOD TERRARIA DID TOTALY CREATE THIS LOOT SYSTEM. ITS NOT LIKE EVERY OTHER 2D SANDBOX GAME DOES NOT HAVE THIS.

Seriously WHAT? I scold the game for being Terraria-like, means I don't want to play another Terraria... makes me a Terraria fanboy. Logic?
Rest is just rubbish I won't waste my time on.

I am just hitting a carebear wall.

I think it may be a little more interesting in the future, a lot of the features they are giving us now are unfinished and definitely due for a bit of streamlining/improving. Maybe you could make a suggestion in the suggestions forum, it may be a bit more useful there because people are just going to bash you here instead of responding in a civil manner.

Terraria was pretty much one of the first sandbox platformers, so.. Just get out, kid. Guess this game is really attracting proper playerbase.

im not a big fan of it either. i will just use default. the devs might change their minds about this but i dont care either way. you dont have to use the artificial difficulty options and i guess i cant blame people who want the choice. you are a little too upset about this op.

The thing is, it's not a difficulty system... It's a cheap way of adding "fake" difficulty to the game. This system does not increase difficulty, it simply increases the amount of rage after you die.

Proper difficulty modes would consist of multiplying variables for things like damage, speed that would increase/decrease in value based on the difficulty. The sense of difficulty could also be enhanced further by adding special behaviors to things, certain monster attacks could be added only in higher difficulties to ACTUALLY make the game more difficult, or maybe poison could have additional effects like slowness on higher difficulties.

I am disappointed with the current decision to directly copy over Terraria's difficulty system, I hope they'll look at it again in the future and come up with something a little bit more inventive. Then they could add all this as "game modes" instead of "difficulty levels" for the people that love to go hardcore.

So you're saying that more options for people so they can play how they want to and be happy...is bad?

"Fuck everyone else's opinion, everyone has to play the same SUPER HARDCORE way I play!"

    I just...

EDIT: Archer makes some good points though. But notice how he didn't sound like an asshole.

At first I was like "Wait, they're adding difficulty modes? About damn time! Also, why on earth would anyone complain about that?"
But then I read about how it's going to be implemented.

We want a proper difficulty system. One that makes battles tense again. One that prevents you from automatically stomping the entire sector once you get the armor upgrade.
I REALLY hope they add a proper one in future.
