So far, I'm pretty sure there are just bird aliens, fish aliens, bipedal aliens, and aliens that walk on 4 or more legs. It would be cool if new kinds of aliens were added, for instance, snake aliens that don't have any legs or even aliens that are shapeless blobs. This would add even more variety to the already great variety of mobs in Starbound.
