Difference between Races?

So, I've tried out each race. And currently, my favorite is the Glitch.

Curious. I was wondering if each race had different abilities, as well as Ships, Armor, and Weapons, and backgrounds of course.

Recollection. I was told that each race has different abilities, but I was unable to figure them out through a few minutes of play with each. Such as, like... plasma people that glow. Fish people that breathe water. That the Avians could jump higher. Etc. Is any of this true, or is my friend crazy? If it is true, perhaps it should be mentioned in the codex.

Anyways, if anyone has any info on this, lemme know.

Abilities will be tied to racial armor sets. The race you choose is mostly cosmetic, but you do get access to your own racial armor more quickly than another race would.

The races themselves don't have different abilities, but the race-specific armors do.
Avian makes you glide and hylotl makes you swim faster for example

No, races do not have different abilities, however they all have different racial armor and weapons, also they are planing to make special racial armor which will have abillities sucha s gliding for Avians or waterbreathing for Hylotils.

Their racial armours are going to have these effects far as I know.

Supposedly glitch have quicker mining speed when you are wearing the glitch armor but since mining overall is very tedious I haven't bothered checking it. Otherwise I think racial abilities are not fully implemented. I'm not sure why glitch needs food or warmth, but there it is.

I hope they do implement racial bonuses. They can be small, that would add a lot more to their diversity.

Food, I can understand, since they developed their own sorta-societies. Warmth, or breathing, however, is alien to me.

I'd love if the armor bonuses that are given to the races were applied to the races themselves as well as the armor. That way you as your race inherently get the bonus, but wearing another races armor that more than likely exploits these racial adaptations, would also give you a boost to that trait.

Racial Armor abilities are not implemented yet.

I like that any race can get any racial armor for its specific ability, and that they only start with the knowledge of their own armor pieces. Gives a reason to explore for other races(To buy racial armor blueprints) or to work alongside other players using other races(To have them craft it for you).

I am for races remaining a cosmetic difference, but I also would support NPCs having different reactions to different races(Such as certain Glitch villages being friendly to Player Glitches, but hostile to other races). That would be a better way to give racial differences.

See. I don't like just cosmetic differences. It feels kind of cheap, when there's so much potential to be had. Each race has a storyline, too, Darx. With it's own lore.

I understand where you're coming from, but if we start giving unique traits that can potentially give one race a clear advantage over another, then we have people choosing races specifically for those bonuses deemed to be the most beneficial(Meta-gaming race choice essentially).

No race should be innately superior or inferior to another race in a game such as this.

It's tricky. Having them all be the same without armor seems kind of silly, but on the other hand making them all balanced with each other while still respecting what they are would be quite the challenge.

The first to come to mind is the Glitch. They must have been designed to be almost identical to organic beings with the same needs. It seems odd they would care about getting cold, having to breath or eat.. But it says they were created by a race of enormous intelligence. So presumably they found a way to design them so their mechanical parts needed all the same things to operate and maintain as organic beings. But one would think one of the free Glitch would be able to overcome some of these things with tech upgrades. For me they are the most difficult to balance - once you really think about it. Their existence seems counter intuitive, to make a creature that is that complex be so physically fragile and limited like organics.

What bonuses would Humans have? Compared to the other races they should probably endure heat better, our ability to sweat puts us above many other creatures when it comes to heat resistance. That and our physical endurance (especially when trained) is an important reason why we still exist today. The things professional athletes can do compared to sedentary people is astounding. Looking at other games, Humans are usually given traits that provide versatility and charismatic/diplomatic bonuses. How does that translate into a game like this?

Avians should maybe endure cold better, because of their insulating feathers.. But be more fragile as bird creatures tend to have light hollow bones. Maybe their strength to weight ratio would be favorable and they could jump higher.

Hylotl would probably suffer much more badly from extremes of heat and cold than the other races, would being able to swim well and breath water be enough to outweigh that?

And the Novakid.. Well one would think they'd care nothing about hot temperatures, endure cold well, and not be able to wear non specialized clothing. One would think their energy needs would be much higher than other races to sustain their odd biology, so they'd probably need to eat much more often. Let's not even think about how one could even see if your entire body glowed so brightly.

Floran.. Maybe they'd be energized during the day, especially on desert worlds, but more sluggish at night? Maybe be able to go longer periods of time without eating, so long as they get sunlight.

It'd be a challenge, and any traits would probably have to be very minor before people complain of imbalance.
