I'm of the same position. Normally I don't like Yogscast videos at all, but I really enjoyed them playing Starbound. Had a few good laughs : )

I feel yogscast was a really bad choice for showing new people the game. They didn't touch on anything that makes starbound different from terraria. The whole travelling to different planets and the diversity of them is what makes starbound so appealing. This was a missed opportunity unfortunately. That's just my opinion!

You gotta give it to Duncan though... He really did try to maintain order in the midst of Sips and on a lesser note sjin and was the only one who really gave a damn.:V

Yoggcast stream was stupid, only Duncan seemed like he was trying to play, the other guys were obviously retards.

And I mean it, literally retards, either that or they had NO IDEA what a computer game was, let alone played one before.

I understand that randomness is a hallmark of groups like Yoggcast(sp), and taking that into account, I didn't have any huge issues with the stream. On top of that, they did seem to have some fun with the game, even if it was in a different way than I would have enjoyed the game.

Still, none of the poll options really suit how I felt about it, so I'll abstain from making a selection there.

They tried to advertise indeed but that stream made Starbound look like Terraria in space to the people who isn't aware of the features of the game, wich is what I get by every friend I have that haven't seen the features and dev twitchs and such,I even talked with some guy today and when I mentioned the game he said literally "oh yeah I heard its only Terraria in space",Yog. would show more people the game but mostly I bet a high % those people will be either "terraria in space" "2d minecraft ripoff, same as Terraria" as it was the same for Terraria, there was some heavy dramas about that back then, its bad when you see people leaving the room and also the own fanbase started to doubt on the game itself(don't get me wrong I love the game since I know what to expect from it but in the eyes of new people it didn't seem too different from what the market has to offer...)

Yeah, I enjoyed it. Never really watched any of YogsCast's stuff, so I can't really speak for it. But it was still nice to see how things are going to work in the early game. I also like the first boss as well, which was a nice fit.

Alright, so I've read through the entire thread, and here's what I have to say:

Honestly coming into the stream I expected the Yogscast to annoy me as they usually do. Throughout watching the stream I was laughing while still trying to pinpoint every detail about the game. Think about this guys, the developers already know WE'RE hooked on Starbound, and they made a good choice on who to choose to stream it. Sure, some unwanted community members may join, sure, the Yogscast didn't immerse themselves, but the thing is that they were having fun. The best Tiy and his crew could do was show off people having fun with the game, no matter how buggy or unstable it is. People buy games for ENTERTAINMENT, and I personally have bought many games because I knew others were having fun playing it. All the crew did was give people unfamiliar to Starbound a demonstration on you don't have to know what you're doing in Starbound, but you still have fun. THAT'S the kind of game I paid for, whether I fail or not. Scripted or not, I believe Chucklefish did a good job presenting to the audience their game.

    That is all.

No matter who shows you Starbound, it will always look like Terraria. The difference is generated monsters and weaponry, as well as thousands of worlds to visit.

I believe (I may be incorrect) that they didn't showcase traveling to another planet because of crashes. I may be wrong, but yesterday some of the developers did a short stream and when they attempted to travel to a different world, the game crashed. Perhaps they couldn't fix that crash in time, and were forced to leave out planet exploration.

But anyways, at least people saw the awesome guns, the awesome monsters, and the EPIC building.

It is a shame we didn't see any other planets, but hey. Now it'll be a surprise when we actually have the game in our hands. ;)

  10. Which is odd, because Sips actually beat the Eye of Cthulhu on hardcore mode first try.

I'd been up all night (to get lucky~) and stayed up a few hours more to try and catch the stream. I was super excited as I waited for them to come out, not knowing anything about Yogscast, and settled in to watch some non-developer gameplay. I was almost immediately disappointed. Which the 'leader' (his name escapes me, but it's whose screen we were watching) did try to pay SOME attention to the opening quests, his friends seemed to utterly disregard them and were already on the planet. They didn't take any time to learn the controls, jumping right in and messing around and pulling apart the environment without even understanding why they were doing so or how they were doing it. WHO PLAYS GAMES LIKE THIS? There's something to be said for playing a game the way YOU want to, and I'm not saying they should have made more of an effort to play the game in a pre-determined way that wouldn't have been fun for them, but at the same time it felt like they were just goofing around and not taking the experience seriously.

When I sit down to play a game for the first time, I let the game present itself to me. I watch the opening sequences, I read the dialogue, I take the quests and get to know my environment in what I like to believe is an intelligent manner. I don't jump around like a goat with bags tied to its hooves on hot coals! I follow the experience the game is trying to let me have in the beginning. Then, ideally, there comes a point where I'm taught all I need to know to continue on my own and THEN I go and do my own thing. Down the line when I'm more familiar and have tons of characters and play time under my belt I MIGHT just mess around and be silly, but that's because I'm familiar with the game at that point and I know wtf I'm doing.

So yeah. It was both a boring and frustrating thing to watch these guys bumble around. If I were on the dev team there watching them play I think I would have been cringing the whole time. I mean, I've seen a ton of streams of gameplay from the developers and they're almost NEVER boring! They play almost exactly as I'd expect a real gamer to play - and they seem to have fun! Even when they're messing around and not being too serious, there's still a level of freaking sanity there. :wut:

As some people have said, it really felt like they were trying too hard to be entertaining rather than actually trying to play the game... and they completely failed at it.

After re-watching it I liked it, my only problem was the lack of team working and gathering and building but atleast one guy was not in funny lp mode and instead was in show off game mode. I am sure that was just the comedy dynamic he was the straight man and the other two were game grumps esc (Not talking about sexuality). All in all I enjoyed watching the progression of crafting. I am curious if all bosses will be unable to pass thru blocks or is this something that will be changed on beta/release. I enjoyed it just wished the devs would have played with yogs B squad. The devs seemed a little shy but then again I don't blame them they are in a giant room presenting their labor of love probably having a panic attack inside. Great job molly and bartwe.

If you really couldn't bear the Yogscast playing it then just take solace in this thought: At least it wasn't PewDiePie playing. It could have been much, much worse.

That made me wonder if it would be possible to make a mechanic so that they can not be consumed if the player in question has full health.

That would be good. There's always going to be times when you waste them by accident and then you hate yourself, having the game stop you from doing it would be nice.

Your poll choices are quite extreme so I didn't vote... but no I didn't enjoy the Yogscast Let's Play.

Not a huge fan of Yogscast but from what I have watched it's more fun to see them act silly in game i've ALREADY played, just as a different silly perspective on a game I own.

Watching them act ridiculous and not be absolutely entranced by the game while I'm waiting (im)patiently for it... wasn't amused.
