Warmth was nothing but a nuisance.

AFAIK about the fuel the reasoning is that if you needed fuel to move through the solar system you couldn't leave the starting planet. That is, unless they reimplemented coal as a fuel which didn't make sense in the first place.

Well, much of space travel basically IS just being pointed in the right direction and letting the power from the initial launch carry you most of the way, using gravity wells as slingshots. Propulsion is actually fairly minor.

As such I'm fine with the idea that these ships have solar batteries or whatever that make the non-combustion-based ships go.

The only fuel source is Liquid Echrius, basically making coal sorta useless in the game.

Well there's Fill 'Er Up as well. But that's only able to get if you use the /admin command and the /spawnitem fillerup

Oh. My bad. I wasn't aware you could use the others.

Turns out the higher tiered the ore / final product the more fuel we get.

I mainly use /admin mode so I wasn't aware of much fuel resources. Didn't really need to know.

Are the nightly quests in a finished-ish state?

Did ya really just ask if anything in Starbound is complete in one of its newest branches?:V

Nah, quests are the reason I don't play the game anymore, they are still fetch item X placeholders.

Starbound is the game. Chucklefish is the developer. 'There' and 'their' are not interchangeable.

With that out of the way, I struggle to see the romanticized appeal of these so-called 'survival' elements. The game has always been about exploration and building, with survival feeling like a tacked-on gimmick. Warmth was more of a barrier to exploration than anything, and removing it hasn't ruined the game at all. Hunger had a similar issue, and added little other than "Eat X every Y minutes so you can't go exploring for as long". Ship fuel hasn't been removed as far as I hear, but making intra-system travel consume no fuel means that players won't get stuck on a planet without fuel (instead, they can either find some or buy it from the Outpost).

I think some people need to take their rose-tinted glasses off for a moment to look at just what these mechanics originally consisted of, and how much or little they contributed to the game.

  11. Well said.

I'm sure there are people who thought the super murder birds from early Koala were a good idea too.

As long as I've been online, back in the days of dial-up and 50 Free Hours Of AOL, there's something that's always been true.

The only thing that's never changed is fans' irrational fear of change.
