Speaking of not being able to create armor and plates with diamond, gold is very soft and would not create effective armor, but it is one of the stronger universal armors in Starbound. Come on people, the developers obviously aren't going for super realistic here.
thats what ive been explaining to them over the past couple months but nope , people think it must be super realistic
That is because people want it to follow traditional sci fi tropes. In most sci fi, everything that we have in our time period works pretty much the same way in the show or game or what have you. The fantastic elements are taken from the new technology. The exclusion of course is when a universe is completely unlike our current universe. Also, because sci fi is based around science, so a tad more realism is expected and preferred by fans of the genre.
i hear what you are saying but dunno about you but when i hear the word sci-fi i do not expect the slightest bit of science that comes close to realism , when i hear the word sci-fi i think futuristic evolved time / technology IMO sci-fi games do not have to have realism in anyway even if it is just a tad at least thats the way for me , so long as it brings new content and makes the game more enjoyable and keeps us at it for longer then its fine with me , and im pretty sure thats how it is for quite a few others as well
Diamond armor is apparently implemented in the game, but completely and utterly unobtainable from what I understand.
If we have a starship that can extract enough energy from coal to power a warp drive then I'm sure we've some way of refashioning gold and diamond with pixels to make them worthy bits of armor.
I am thinking that in a Starbound-like future, it is very likely that we are able to manipulate super-hard materials, like diamond, into shapes that are useful for our purposes. Perhaps into tiny scales which fit perfectly into each other and form a fish scale armor which twinkles in the light... Fancy. On another note. Diamonds are a great material to use for high-tier crafting of tech-stuff. I am thinking prisms and expensive components.
when i seen that you said diamond scales and saw the picture i instantly thought the shadow-scale armor from terraria but in diamond form
I laughed so hard when you said this.. SO hard.. Obviously, it was a bit inspired by those, but still.. YOU are the one saying Diamond Armor, which probably would have never entered anyone's mind if not for Minecraft. Also, I agree with a bunch of people who think that this doesn't make much sense. Like someone said, it's scratch-resistant, which will only protect against cats. A good hammer swing takes it out, and we, in this point in time, don't have too hard hammers, just made of wood and metal, whereas some weapons could be made with a huge metal post with a brick of titanium on the end. Although, I agree with the second-half of what @Dr.Elderbeard said. Diamonds can help with early technology, especially with lasers and things of the sort. One last thing. There is gold armor in the game??
well lets see here , if you had read the comment more clearly you would know im not talking about the game numb nuts , im talking about how everyone is jumping to ideas or mechanics from terraria and minecraft , OFF COURSE starbound takes inspiration form terraria , now tell me i said / mentioned that it didn't yeah ermmm no your behind the times m8 , lnfiniminer was the shiz before minecraft , and thus forward a mod appeared that allowed us to craft multiple armors and added survival elements rather than the very boring vanilla sandbox mode it had you like half of the community think bringing diamond armor into the game will ruin your taste for the game , when really yous need a slap. no wonder i ghost around the forums from now on cause its turned into a 8-14 year old argument all the time its a game who cares if they add diamond armor cause the way i see it , it adds more enjoyment as well as more playability in the game as well as something to collect and work for
Well then I will correct myself. *heard of before Infiniminer Also, I know you aren't talking about the game. I am talking about Suggestions, as this is one too. And I don't think it would ruin the taste for the game, just that it isn't logical in my mind, seeing as just a hammer can crush a diamond with a good swing. It might be good in PvP versus someone with only a sword, but it doesn't have too much realism. Just because you think that Sci-Fi doesn't have a sense of realism doesn't mean that NO ONE in the WHOLE WORLD will play a game with logic in it.
They should add lots of things... but they cant be added instantly. Things that i really think should be in the the game is health regeneration, more options, and when you beam up and then go back down you should choose to go to the planet's spawn or where you beamed back up.
The only thing that stands true about diamonds are there hardness ( aka mining usfulness ) They actually, in real life, put diamond tips on picaxes to make it easyer to break stone. so. yea
