With respect, I find this quite patronising. I work 8:30-5:30 Monday to Friday and after work I don't feel much like playing games so I do almost all of my gaming over the weekend. In fact Starbound is probably the only game I have played after work recently, such is my enjoyment of it, however I digress. What I am saying is I don't have much time to play and after reading that all my progress would be wiped and I'd have to start fresh, I penciled this weekend into my diary to play Starbound all day both days to get back to where I was before the patch and after the broken promises, I have been left very disappointed. I understand that the game is in early-access and beta testing and I am sure the devs want the patch out as soon as possible but if it needs play testing, why not give it to the people who have paid money to playtest it for them? Furthermore, what motivation does anyone have to play the game when they know everything they do will be taken away from them as soon as the patch drops? I know I certainly have no motivation to waste my time on something I can't keep.

The fact that they have overshot their target is forgivable, however the lack of an update as to why or a renewed ETA is very shoddy and almost unforgivable. You forget that these people have paid money to play-test a game that isn't even the finished product and we at least deserve an update as to what is happening and when we can expect something.

They really can if they want. Unless there was some fine print offering compensation if the game isn't released by a certain date they really and truly can do what they like now. It would make future projects they are tied to harder to get funding for, but that's only if the association is obvious.

That said the current performance is still above the "industry standard". If you want to feel like your investment is wasted buy into Cube World.

Seriously. I don't see why every thread needs to become some huge debate over the responsibilities of the company.

Here are two key terms I'd like people to consider: Development & Patience.

OMG people. Some of you should just be ashamed of yourselves. "When promises are made..." has anyone seen anyone say "We promise this will be done on such and such day"???? Estimations have been given. Estimations that turned out to be too optimistic because there were problems that need to be fixed. They are working on the patch, right now, which is all any of us can ask of them. Even though coding seems like magic to me, it isn't, and none of them can make problems disappear like magic. I was in mumble yesterday with Tiy and 2 of the developers. They ARE working on the patch. They haven't said "oh forget this mess, let's go shopping." Some of you need to adjust your expectations, because they are unrealistic and unfair. They will release the patch when the patch is done. Sorry it's not soon enough for you and your need for more instant gratification. What can I say? Grow up! This is exactly what life is like. You want something, you think it's gonna happen on this day, something happens to prevent it, and you have to wait. In the grand scheme of things, we haven't even been waiting that long for this. It seems like a looonnnggg time for us because we are just waiting, but for them they are working and working and it doesn't seem as long when you are working on it as it seems if you are waiting on it. They will give us the patch when the patch is done. They are trying to make it done RIGHT NOW. What more could you possibly expect out of these guys?

Fair point, why take so long on a patch that is for an unfinished game. We're testing it, we don't expect it to be polished. I think that's something the devs need to decide, is it early access or are they patching a polished game?

    So much Entitlement.

Gotta wait for a good patch or else they'll have to rewipe if there's an issue.

Imagine the sh*tstorm if something comes up and they need to re-wipe again in the next patch after this.

I'm not calling it a conspiracy, nor am I bent out of shape. I just want information and I find the lack-thereof wholly unprofessional after they missed their own deadline. It's the basics that they have got wrong here; Firstly don't promise something you can't deliver. Secondly if they must promise that, they should have a good explanation as to why when they can't. People wouldn't be annoyed here if the patch wouldn't wipe everything they've done, that's what the issue is. We want to play the game but we don't feel there's a reason to when we know our work will be undone.

I can't help but feel the irony of this statement. I'd say this is the moment I stop taking you seriously but that came and went a while ago.

just make the very first line of the patch notes state "disclaimer: patch notes state known additions, subtractions, changes, bugfixes, and introduced bugs. there is always the possibility of unforseen bugs, glitches, complications, or playability issues."

    solved.

granted, this should be common sense. however, as we well know, common sense is an extremely rare thing on the internet.

Clearly The devs have made a mistake here. If they weren't so intent on getting on getting the patch out just as soon as its ready they could have kept quiet about it and told us all once it was ready, then they could sit around chewing the fat for a week before releasing it. That would have suited all the moaners here but I don't think it's how the develop/test cycle actually works.

Looking at all this vitriol is it really any mystery the developers don't post here as much as we'd all like?

When it's ready I'm sure they'll get it up, I hope they ignore the lot of you and do the same next patch because the alternative is to lose a week or so of test time per patch and that'll hurt more in the end.

I'm pretty sure that would fall under false advertisement and you would be "entitled" to get your money back.
People aren't angry over the fact that they are playing a beta, they are upset because they would like to start their permanent characters, but the patch which allows them to keeps getting delayed with no clear information right now as to when it will be released. Which again is in contrast with earlier information which stated "monday or so".

I'm personally not angry, though I was looking forward to playing this weekend. I do however think that if you put a date, even a vague date like "monday or so" on the internet for everyone to see you either better friggin deliver, or keep people appraised when there is a delay. All this needs is a twitter post saying: "we're working out the bugs, don't know how long it will take." and people wouldn't have had anything to complain about. That takes 5 seconds, if you type slow.
