This isn't up for discussion. Make posts about the patch, but do so in a calm manner. This goes for everyone. If you don't do this I will unfortunately have to give out warning points. I like to let everyone just make posts however they like, but I do have to ensure that this remains a nice place everyone to post. This isn't censorship, its simply me moderating as necessary.

You know, when Tiy said pirate the game, if you like it, buy it. That might not have been such a bad idea.

I do kinda wish Early Access didn't exist, but not for the usual reasons people talk about.

Interesting view on the human's psyche these last days. Patience, entitlement and anger. In others and in me. Time to reflect, it's not like I have anything better to do anyway...

    TL-DR
Devs said they were going to /try/ for the weekend but not promise anything
Community riots trying to figure out what /try/ means. Calls it a promise anyway.

He actually does have a point, though. Beta doesn't have to mean "everything that happens is excusable." ETAs shouldn't be given only to be repeatedly missed. If you miss four in a row you need to seriously re-evaluate how you estimate, because "estimate" and "wild guess" actually are not the same thing.

Also you can't really put it on steam themselves. They aren't putting a gun to indie developers' heads and saying "Put your game on here before it's finished and make people buy it." The devs are all pretty on-board with the idea, it's just another variant of crowdfunding. Just one where the accountability seems to vanish- with other forms there's a reasonable expectation of what the person receiving the money has to do. When they say "early access" it doesn't matter as long as you can vaguely quantify the fact that they're working on it.

And then you have the people who view reasonable expectation as entitlement. It's not really a matter of 'entitlement once you've put money into a promise.

Can't we just play the game without steam? That way, play it without it ever getting wiped. Then when you're are ready, update and wipe and see what's new in the game.

i have one friend who pirated, then bought. i have another friend who has pirated, played a few hours, and is now waiting for a few patches to see what kind of additions are made before buying (although he'll end up buying anyways, to play with us). just like minecraft has proven, pirating isn't bad by definition, it's only bad because of bad apples.

Pack up that strawman and leave it someplace else, it's not fooling anybody.

The dev's aren't goofing off. Bartwe did a stream last night where he was hard at work fixing bugs. There are legitimate reasons for the delay on this update - first and foremost being it's not at all like previous patches. This isn't just bugfixes and added content, it's major changes to how the game engine works. That requires a lot more work and a lot more time.

Let's talk worst-case scenario. Things need to be tested so that Chucklefish can be sure this release is even safe for our machines. It's no secret that Starbound isn't well optimized yet, and this could cause nasty things to happen to a machine trying to run it. Better they cover their bases than release something that damages a paying customer's computer.

I paid for a game under development, and that's what I got. If I absolutely needed to have a complete game, I would have waited until release. Sure, it would be awesome if there was a shiny new update every few days, but it would also be awesome if my dog shat solid gold bricks. Sometimes you just have to be realistic. Waiting a few more days for an update is hardly the end of the world.

Fifteen bucks is the cost of two crappalottachinos, or whatever the kids are sucking on at the Starbucks these days. Even if no more updates were to happen, and the game was left in its unfinished state, I still wouldn't feel ripped off. I've already had my fifteen bucks worth of fun.

It's 1:58 PM here, saturday. I just justified that they still have quite a few hours to make a saturday launch, and hell, the timezone to the east of me has even longer!! Just because it's getting late in your time zone doesn't mean they are late to someone elses. Also, saying something isn't the same as promising something.

would be ok if it was the first time they said it ;) but for the fourth time it is a bit... well... :/
would be aaaaallll ok if they said 2-3 hours ago: ok we messed up / there is a huge problem (again...) so we dont get the update out on that weekend...
    wouldnt be that hard right?

I agree there. Once money is exchange, people tend to expect something more than from something free.

We all paid good money for this game and so far its a great game and at least you can pass the time waiting for the new update playing the old update that works just fine.

I think this is one of the few posts that hits the issue on the head.

The developers keep doing this, and have done for the entirety of Starbounds life. That is to say, they keep making dates, setting up expectations only to delay them multiple times, we had that with the release of beta too. It is possibly Chucklefish's biggest weakness.

I don't have an issue waiting, I have literally hundreds of games to play, however I can't deny getting annoyed at being told "it'll probably be x" for it to be delayed for the third, fourth time.
