Devs are aiming for Saturday patch, hoping for Friday:

If that's where he's located then its probably best to assume that time zone. A lot of people like to go by pacific time though when announcing a specific time, but that would have been mentioned.

 

There isn't anything to hold CF accountable for. They come up with a tentative date and issues crop up. This isn't some weird conspiracy or desire to hold back a patch for some reason.

 

I think it's safe to say at this point that we're not getting a patch today. I'm still hoping for a weekend release, but I wouldn't be surprised at this point if we didn't get one.

 

Coming from the game Darkfall Online, if I compare missed deadlines and unfulfilled promises, the devs of starbound are saints when it comes to keeping them and doing things in a timely manner. I think anyone who doesn't understand the problems that can come from programming will not understand why delays happen, or why sometimes dates can't be met. They aren't being lazy, and they aren't taking time away from developing. Shit happens, and it takes time to deal with. In this case, they are attempting to avoiding shit from happening in the first place, and keeping the game playable by testing the patch to make sure there are no game breaking bugs preventing thousands of players from enjoying any starbound at all.

No one went so far as accusing that. Not in the last few posts.

My issue is letting a day go by without a single word about it until quite some time. Nothing was said about Friday, we just had to wait and find that out for ourselves.

speaking of locking threads, i think it's about time this one gets locked as it seems to be spiraling viciously out of control.

 

I think the way things are going, when dates are still fluid, guess details like time zone doesn't really matter.

I wonder if steam has anything to do with the delay.

I wasn't implying there was a conspiracy. I was implying they're at fault for continual inaccurate communication through a whole lot of disparate channels. You're really only allowed so many mulligans when it comes to bad ETAs.

 

Yep, its a lot easier for us to watch a single thread. If this one gets locked I'll just have to consolidate a new one into a single topic.

Guys, I know you want to play the new patch and I hope we all get to do so soon. Just try not to get upset. Remember that this is a video game and its not something to get upset about. Please just try to remain calm in this thread and understand that the developers probably want this patch out more than any of us do.

That isn't how game development, especially pre-release game development works. The whole point is that this is not yet a completed project, so delays are inevitable, especially since they are apparently making a lot of engine changes.

 

Not sure that locking threads will help. It just frustrates people more since he frustration is from the lack of information.

 

well, i can't really argue with that, it's a solid point.

actually, they are allowed as many as they please, as you agreed to that when you signed up. granted, it isn't any less frustrating, but they've done nothing wrong.

 

Right, and I'm just saying that in any development project you have to factor likely delays into your ETAs. You have to do that if you're submitting them to a handful of investors, nevermind a million beta testers. Delays are likely. I'm not saying they aren't. I'm saying not taking into account how likely they are and giving dates they won't realistically meet is something they need to seriously work on.

The idea that early access give them carte blanche to do whatever is kind of troubling.

 

Maybe if we all disguise ourselves as vultures and scream at the devs things will happen faster.

 

Do they really work in the weekend? I was thinking they would release the patch on monday. I hope for sunday, but I'm guessing monday.

 

why do you think so many people have been bashing on steam's new gimmick? it's beyond ridiculous, but it's all legit so there's really nothing anyone can do about it.

plus you get to play games early, so it's not all bad.

I was really just stating that I'd like to know the day of if a patch will land or not instead of waiting the entire day. Some of us would like to start of asap to get back up to snuff with our characters.
