I will try to explain idea on an example terraria if the monster can't pass to the player for any reason, it starts to stupidly move and jump around I suggest to give them ability to destroy to (dig) blocks preventing to pass to the player why it is necessary: 1: traps and fortifications will be necessary not only for appearance and fun 2: single monsters and events with invasions as the blood moon will be more dangerous (terraria - the blood moon - construct around you caracter a wall and you in safe, the King slime? there are no problems the same way) 3: you protect the house - the house protects you 4: more interesting gameplay mechanics: 1: if the monster can't pass to the player it starts to attack(dig) block \object disturbing to it 2: durability of blocks needs to be calculated so that 1 monster destroyed it long and a horde quickly enough (dirt - 50 blows, a stone 100, bricks 150 etc) 1 monster will destroy the dirt block in 50 seconds, the group from 10 in 5 seconds it means that you should build safer houses, use traps and the weapon that they didn't break. 3: level of damage of blocks shouldn't be restored itself, you should repair the house 4: it is possible to create new type of monsters - a diger - has stronger ability to excavation, means is more dangerous to your house the advanced mechanics: on the basis of hardness the block has hardness = 100 strength of a rat = 10 strength of the zombie =30 strength of the furious space bum =50 the block will start to receive damage if the total effort of monsters attacking it exceeds its hardness 10 rats can break the block 2 bums can 4 zombies and other combinations all numbers are approximate and demand calculations) P.S. excuse for my English =)
this does really sound entriging, offcourse if you would be able to get the "destroyed" blocks back it would be greater, but maybe only at a chance thou (when you need to repair some materials of the destroyed stuff will be unusable. Maybe you should only get 75% of the stuff the mobs have broken, and then you'd have to get the rest yourself. nice idea
This is an epic idea, it has been said that monsters can already "chuck dirt and displace blocks" but this idea gives you an end of the world apocolipse theme, kind of like the mincraft invation mod
good idea, but instead of a "block damage" i would prefere a "block hardness" What i mean is, a monster with 5 points in Strenght can destroy only block with a Hardness of 5 or less, and cannot, under any circumstaces, destroy >5 hardness blocks. I t would be sad for an obsidian wall to be broken by a rat because you did't notice it and it took it 20 hours to do so... (BTW, sorry for my english, i'm italian )
I think correctly picked up parameters of mob-strength and durability of blocks will solve all problems places in idea are still weak?
So long as there are ways of being very defensive I see no problems, there will be some players who don't want to fight, and would be put off having to do so. I play with a friend who would build amazing houses but was useless with a sword and we would need to protect them. She steadfast refuses to play Minecraft any more, and without the solid protection from walls in Terraria she wouldn't play that either, so as long as impenetrable defences are possible, there is no problem. They don't need to be easy, just, possible. Excellent idea though, it never quite sat right with me that you can dig a dirt hole and be protected from everything that wasn't a worms and bosses in Terraria
Good idea, it would be really sad, a mouse break a block obisidian.Mas would be better if they could at least break the blocks of sand, and zombies with simple picks, broken sand, stones, copper, and bronze. sorry for the english, I'm brazilian (uhuuulll)
