Massive inactive ships, filled with rogue A.I., hive-mind creatures (sorta like necromorphs from dead space) or space pirates that were looting the ship when you got on. Some areas would be safe to walk around in, but others would require a survival system in order to travel. Notable loot would be guns, fuel, uniforms dependent on the ship type, and coordinates which lead to other planets with settlements on them. As well, if expandable ships are added, you could find schematics and materiel's used when expanding your ship. I was imagining the ships being split in half, so the hallways would be tilted all over the place. you would be able to get to these ships the same way you could get to planets and asteroid fields. as well, you would always warp into a place with air, and fuel so that people who aren't prepared for the ships difficulty can leave if they wish.
