This is an idea I got when someone in IRC said that there should be a penguin boss. I started to play with it in my mind, and what resulted was a fucked up boss that spits out baby penguins. The boss will be medium-low difficulty. It shoots baby penguins at you (with its mouth); these are the real threat. They do much more damage than the boss itself. The 'babies' start out as regular sized penguins with very low damage. As more are killed, the penguins get bigger and do much more damage. Rather than just attacking* the player they try to protect their mother, requiring you to kill them, too. The babies have a size limit that is a bit larger than their mother's. This should create a funny animation as the giant baby gets thrown up from the mother. The boss's defense and other defensive things are very strong at the beginning of the battle. As she has more babies her defense drops considerably. This will force the player to fight babies for awhile before killing the boss. I see a penguin chewing on another penguin's butt ----> Reads the text -----> Oooooooo! lol This is pretty interesting, what if you fighting it from high point so penguins can't roll toward you? Sound like it would be pretty easy to beat with little arena construction.
Nice idea. A high-powered weapon could probably take it out pretty quickly by standing on a giant pillar firing at it where it can't get you. Although rolling baby penguins that got barfed up really scares me...
1. This is only a medium-low boss. Arenas should be very helpful, even vital, in beating it. 2. Maybe they can jump. Maybe the penguins are shot towards you. 3. Any boss will have ways that allow you to easily defeat it. Look at terraria: hellstone and cross necklace - kill any boss with ease. She would have to come before you get a weapon powerful enough to do that. Perhaps she heals if she doesnt take x amount of damage in y amount of time.
Well, you could still stand on a pillar and shoot arrows at the penguinlings until her defense falls to zero, and then destroy her. It may take a while, but it would work. An easy fix is for the baby penguins to roll up walls. Then you'll have them on your roof and invading your house
Terraria?!! Terraria???!! THIS IS STARBOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Otherwise, yes, it might work, just got to add little more specific mechanics, AI behavior and maybe little bit of Lore for it?
