Deflector Armour - because bullets hurt!
This high-tech armour has uses a built-in computer and an array of sensors to configure the surface of the armour to deflect incoming projectiles (such as bullets and lasers).

    Information
The armour, which is designed for gunfights, has a relatively low defence (About 60% of similar levelled items) but its strength is its 15% chance to reduce bullet and laser damage randomly by 50-100%. Later models can increase the chance even higher, extend the reduction to explosions at a reduced rate or even give the suit the ability to reflect bullets and rockets back at the owner!

    Drawbacks
However, the deflection ability only applies to bullets/lasers, so it is not recommended to take this with you to planets if the enemies use melee due to the low base defence. Slow moving projectiles, such as blobs of acid or special bullets, are not moving fast enough for this armour to be of much use, so the defence bonus is reduced by 75%, providing a reduction of only 12.5-25%.

    Full battery, Low health?
All tiers have the ability to increase the deflection chance and damage reduction at the cost of battery power, at the rate of 3 battery units (Assuming the average battery by the time you get this is 500) for an additional 25% increase of the current deflection chance, rounded up (So 15%->19, 19->24, 24->30, etc.). The maximum level is 5, costing 15 battery units and a 46% chance to deflect bullets. Battery is consumed whenever you are hit by attacks that can be deflected, even if the chance fails.

    Upgrades
There are two tiers of upgrades: hardware and software. Hardware is made with parts such as sensors and CPUs and increases the damage reduction, software is acquired through purchase from computer-type NPCs and possibly data chips from some types of robot. Software upgrades increase base deflection chance (up to 30% or 2x basic) and can eventually lead to the reflector module. As previously mentioned, the reflector module is high tier and has a chance to reflect attacks back to the attacker. This has a 50% chance of occurring should the deflection test be passed. Damage is still taken at the reduced rate. This upgrade is only ever received as a high level quest reward from a coding NPC.

Sounds good. It would kinda be like using Blademail in DotA, as you would be dealing damage back to those who you can't necessarily reach at the moment. Good for tanky-specced PVP people that sacrifice mobility for a bit more staying power in the field.

Anyways, this would be deadliest against people using high-velocity rounds like lasers and sniper rifles. Grenade launchers and other projectile launchers that would be slower, but not too slow to be deflect, and would be less effective for this armor to deal with, because you could just dodge the grenades as they came back. Shotguns, however, would be this thing's bane. A few volleys of weak shotgun shells with properly-timed shielding on the attacker would result in you being a sitting duck.

I like the depth of play that this idea presents, so kudos to you.
