Here is a potential idea. Since customizing the ship will be a big thing in the final release. How about adding an option to build a ship add-on that auto collects a random percentage of the ore you drop on death. And you can upgrade it to increase the percent, eventually to 100% but at a steep cost. Or perhaps it's that the container will have a limit and any ore that passes that limit will "become unstable and evaporate during transport" keeping that it is a random selection of ores, it just has a cap on how many total items it can save. Which again would be upgradable, but this time with a hard cap rather than an endless cap.

For what it's worth, I loathe this new system and it's put me off trying the nightlies for awhile.

If they want to keep this setting, they really need to add a Casual Low-Key Noobie McCarebear mode where you lose nothing on death and have no stupid penalties. The rest of you can stay off in Punishing Dull Grindcore Manlymode or whatever.

    This.

I'll say again: I don't understand why everybody else feels the need to dictate what I should or shouldn't be able to do in my SINGLE-PLAYER game. Now obviously servers would have their own rulesets, but these new death penalties need to be OPTIONAL because there ARE people who DON'T like them whatsoever.

A game should be fun. "Fun" is a very opinionated word that varies player by player. That is why we need OPTIONS. Some people like death penalty. Others hate it. Others still want something inbetween harsh and no DP at all.

I wish a SB Dev would comment about whether or not they think having the "ore drops" as an option is a feasible idea, or at least SOMETHING that tells us that they are reading this thread. I really don't want them ruining a game that I've been patiently (but eagerly) awaiting for months for with some stupid rule that you can't even mod out of.

In a game that is so easily modded, demanding official personal difficulty settings just makes you sound petulant.

And arguing about it for 16 pages? Focus = Lost, Perspective = Outside of a reasonable Window.

Last I checked, people have said that it does not appear to be mod-able.

If it were mod-able, then I doubt anybody would be talking about this: We'd just download a mod that removes/changes the penalty.

BUT, if you can't mod it out, well.....it needs to be an option. And why are you fighting this, exactly? What is your horse in this race? Why do you care how I want to play my single-player game? How would YOUR fun be affected by such an option (that you aren't forced to use yourself)?

    Hee . ..

    I've just confirmed a troll.

Why would anyone who knows the dynamic of this forum even bother to argue with me? I'm a nobody talking nonsense.

Okay, I'm trolling by asking you why you're attacking an idea that doesn't affect you?

    Attacking?

You're attributing to me a helluva lot more motivation than I, personally, can honestly muster for a silly 15 dollar piece of distraction.

My apparently too subtle point was an effort to figure why you care so much about something like this game to the point you'd argue about it like this.

    Seriously; why does it matter?

we clearly need a "Urist McCarebearNewbie Mode". for people such as him.

I don't have the patience nor the motivation to convince you of my "argument".

Yes, this has indeed gone on much too long. We should stop.

Or as they say in Esperanto: Jes, ĉi tio ja veturante multe tro longa. Ni devus halti.

Beating SS2 on Impossible is relatively easy. When I got to the level after Rickenbacker, I had so many anti-personnel bullets, I set my assault rifle to fully automatic, used the no-recoil PSI power, and just ramboed through the whole place. But, of course, in SS2 there is no item loss at all if you die. You only lose a few nanites, not much even on Impossible. Certainly nothing as vital as items or cybernetic modules.

On the contrary, that is *exactly* what it should be built around. I want to focus on what I'm enjoying, mining. Having to keep stopping is not fun, it's just a distraction from the real gameplay.

SS2 had exactly the right approach to death: pretty small penalty, you get right back into the action, but you don't get a free pass on whatever obstacle killed you in the first place, you still have to beat it to proceed. And the smarter you play, the fewer resources you expended in your failed attempt.

Hybrids can drop up to 12 additional shells. I don't remember seeing 1 or 2 extra shells, mostly just none, 6, or 12, in addition to the 1 guaranteed in the shotgun. The shotgun is a good weapon to use because nothing else uses that ammunition, it does good damage against most targets, it's relatively plentiful, and the Standard Weapons tree is generally pretty good to have.

When you die you see your player being reborn and there written on the same screen you lost 30% of your pixels + all your ores

I also think they should calm down that koala because starbound is getting too hard to be played for people like me (quickly pissed off when something I don't like occurs)

The bug is the ores despawning. Not just being dropped.
Note it says "ores dropped" noyt "ores removed"
The eventual plan is to simply make them not despawn.

and too hard is a relative term, whats too hard for you is too easy to someone else and likewise.

The solution is not just to appeal to people like you. Good day.

Also , try to avoid double posting, admins dont like that.

Like was stated earlier, we either need a chest or breakable object of some kind, (and fill it wit h the ores), or make them not despawn, or (and this is the better option in my opinion) add an easy mode for players like yourself.

oh yeah, and i wouldnt mind and would encourage a teleporter things like xylia mentioned. Would make it less boring to get out of caves and such and would keep people from doing cheap game breaking crap like exiting the game and coming back or suiciding to get to their ship. (which is what the ores dropping is there to discourage in the first place)

Dropping ores really should be something for a hardcore or something mode.

Currently there is no mode that has no death penalty, and while not EVERYONE likes that kind of mode, there are many people who DO. And since this can't be modded . . .

On a creative type game like this, having this sort of progression loss is a major pain in the butt, and really doesn't fit with the feel of it for more casual / fun players. :/
