If there's a similar thread about player deaths, I haven't seen it. Any funny player deaths to share, preferably Hardcore ones?

I just died again on Hardcore. Something *blinked* (was *not* expecting that!) behind me and one-shot me. Was my own fault really, was on a level 7 world for the first time looking for Cerulium Ore while wearing only Aegisalt stuff...

I had a near death experience that almost required a change of pants yesterday.

First of all, it should be noted that I'm playing on hardcore, so the cost of dying can be pretty steep, especially when it comes to armour. This danger was compounded by the fact that I was about a half-hour walk from the beam-in point.

Anyways, I was fighting my way through a crystal lab with a plasma pistol and bonehammer. Crystal labs, as many of you know, have occasional drops with buzzsaws at the bottom that can be easily avoided by walking on the steel platform "shelves" that pass over them. While I was crossing one of those, a guard popped out of the darkness and charged at me. Since the bonehammer has a tendency to destroy nearby steel platforms when used, I jumped before attacking, so that I wouldn't fall into the pit and die. Problem was, I hadn't noticed that my jump brought me within spitting distance of a glass ceiling holding back lava. My attack shattered the glass, and lava spilled out onto my head, taking me down to a single notch on the health bar. Luckily, I managed to energy dash back into a safe hallway, and the lava ended up killing the guard I had been fighting.

It's amazing how deadly a moment of distraction can be in this game.

my 2nd hardcore character, first world was asteroid field, spawn was very bottom
    I stood no chance
3rd character, death from first world having large meteor as weather, and "raining" as soon as I beamed down
I was done with HC after that, until game is more balanced

My character was an adventurer once.
Then she tried to open the pill box.

Using grappling hook on Asteroid Fields and not watching your energy bar. That's never fun.
One time I was playing online while doing this, and I started falling. I panicked so much, but then suddenly my character got caught in midair because he had landed on a chunk that hadn't loaded yet. I used this brief moment to hit the "Teleport to Ship" button (seriously that thing needs a hotkey)

Another incident in an Asteroid Field happened when I didn't know that if you run out of energy for a draining tech (like the Boost Techs, Antigrav or Gravity Bubble) you can't use that tech again until you have touched the ground.

You would not believe how much Durasteel I have spent on survival kits trying to recover my stuff from Asteroid Fields.

Another time I was on an Airship, buying stuff from the vendor. I accidentally clicked outside of the window, causing my character to swing his sword, damaging the vendor. My death was swift and painful.
I tried sneaking into the ship to get back my stuff, slowly destroying the blocks with my matter manipulator and placing blocks around the pirates. Little did I know that items have a despawn time. I was really pissed off at that, I thought they had fixed that (It's the only time I've ever used a backup save to recover items, I felt so cheated)

I was slaughtered inside my first ever dungeon!!!

It was a toilet in the middle of nowhere with staris leading down from it with a secret facility underneath it!! I stole the outhouse for my base then went down the ladder and killed the first monster, acquiring a pile of poop in the process, then I was assaulted by a big flabby Golgothan-like poo Demon and smeared across the inside of the sewer.

I'm so proud of this death. I feel I will never be able to better it.....we shall see.

Yes, poisonous monsters are pretty overpowered. They have the annoying ability to deal nasty damage regardless of your armor.

That's what can get so infuriating when playing hardcore. It's not so much that you lose your items when you die, it's that getting them back without the proper gear takes a lot of trial and error. Still, I prefer it to normal difficulty. It adds a much-needed sense of danger to the game.

I actually ended up abandoning some lost gear the other day. About fifteen minutes into a run, I ran across a land-based miniboss. I had been about to box him in with dirt when out of nowhere, a flying miniboss dives out of the sky and attacks me. Dodging out of the way attracted the attention of the first guy, so now I had two angry giant monsters chasing me. I evaded them as best I could, but there was no way I could keep them both at bay. Eventually the flying took me down with some bloody vomit (lovely way to go, isn't it?).

Every time I went back, I was unlucky enough to attract the attention of something hostile before I even got to the site. One time I actually did manage to grab most of my gear, but then the walking boss tackled me into a hole, preventing me from beaming away. I'm pretty sure that was the moment I said "f*** it" and decided to make new armour.

Well it's mostly because I do have a spare "rescue" kit (some sub-standard armor and a survival kit) but since I'm a fucking idiot, I never return it to the ship after I recover my equipment, and if I happen to die again, I've got to go recover both my regular gear AND my rescue gear. One can only have so many backup sets.

I was in a small cultist hut. I jumped up. I didn't see the buzzsaws on the ceiling. The rest was history.

This isn't really an interesting death; it's more of an interesting post-death.
I was trying hardcore for the first time on a server with a few Steam friends. I died and walked up to them with a stark-naked character. The friends I was playing with were both girls, and it just got plain awkward. After that I decided that I suck at hardcore.
    EDIT: NEW DEATH! YAY!!
So I was playing on my random hardcore Hylotl named Birdy (yes that is an Avian name). I came to an Apex lab dungeon thing (not the parkour one). I found a matter dispenser, and it was the first I've ever seen. So I activated it and it EXPLODED (and I died). After returning to the scene of the death, I accidentally broke the glass over the lava and fell in and died again.
