Ok... You know how in Terraria, The death animation, for the most part, was just the creature exploding and it's body parts flying everywhere. That would be cool, but what if here, Different ways of dying would produce a different animation. Say, you died in acid. Maybe an animation of your skin dissolving and you see a pixel skeleton, than the bones fall into the acid. If you were on fire and you died, maybe you see lots of flames, they go away, and you see a pile of ashes that end up being blown away. When I first thought about this, I also had an idea for a weapon, that when you kill somebody with it, their pixels fly everywhere like a terraria explosion, only it looks crazier and less organised. Thoughts?? Leave Ideas for different animations in the comments. Open the spoiler in my sig to see more of my ideas!
I'm all for death animations. The lack of that is one of the few things I didn't like about Terraria. Maybe if you drown, you see a mass of bubbles come from your character's mouth as your corpse sinks to the bottom of the sea.
Hey, I like your idea, but I think it may be quite a load of work to implement as many death animations as would be necessary for all of the different possible deaths. Then again, there could be a standardized "default" ani with more and more specific animations implemented on the go. I find the weapon idea nice, a "Pixel Desintegrator"
It would be a lot of work, and a default animation for enemies would be easy to pull off, when maybe this is featured most in PvP and against bosses/ specific enemies. Just adding in a defualt animation would make it easier and it be a bit more special if you died by other means...
also, it could be gimmicky to secretly add new animations now and then and players had to discover them
when i dead in terraria, I have only one thought - soon to be reborn and f***in kickass who kill me. No animation!
They would be quick, so they wouldn't interfere with your plan to just go and kick that creature's ass. A "you were slain" would suck if they had that like in terraria, maybe it would appear in multiplayer to provide a sort of respawn timer.
I was just going to mention that. Imagine blowing up another player with a shotgun at close range, BAM!, and his body goes flying off a cliff. THIS. IS. STARBOUND.
If I was a dev, I would think ragdoll physics is such a good idea, I would be like "really? ragdoll physics? Ok, done. There you go jackalope!"
I love this idea. The more tiny "insignificant" details the better, I love those in video games. ~ockpii
As long as they are not too long and stop the game flow I'm all in for them and if It's too much work just add some special animations for getting killed by a boss, maybe even let the boss have some one hit kill attack (that you could avoid) that has a spectacular death animation. Like the Boss ripping you in 2 halves, I guess that would be a bit too much, but you get the point.
Im with the ragdoll suggestion. Well I think water, lava, acid, and etc, shouldn't have a ragdoll animation. Also it would be cool if your character took to much of a hit in a certain area that part would go flying off. So if you fell off a huge cliff wherever you landed on the ground, the part that landed first would like blow up in blood and stuff .But if its a weak hit from something like a virorb you would just fall to the ground in a ragdoll animation. Unless its a bomb virorb cause if its that your head blows up.
