I think "original" is a concept that is almost unfathomable.

Everything we create is influenced by something, whether we realize it or not. There is nothing truly new under the sun; we just hope for interesting variations that captivate us.

Exactly! We can create only by taking inspiration from things we already know.
If we don't have knowledge about an object/concept/whatever, how can we create something containing it?
This means that we will create similar things as our knowledge and experiences overlap in many areas.

It's kinda logical when you think about it. Male looking like flowers would be kinda odd...

 

Yes it would, never thought of that. They'd fit with trees or another plant at least.

 

Actually a lot of real flowers are both, male and female. (Thank god for Wikipedia)
But i guess for Gamedesign purposes it would make sense to give them a different appearance. Humans are used to seeing different appearances based on gender.

 

Men aren't really the sort of flower lovers.
