TBH I was expecting a "creepy" race eventually, I just didn't expect it from this one since the original "reveal" sprite from the character creation screen lacks any hint of creepiness.

Maybe it's normal for some Plant People to look creepy, & others to look cute? There's such a thing as creepy Humans & cute Humans at the same time. Or... Plant People hide their creepiness behind false cuteness until it's too late for the victim...

I'm currently most curious about if this new Race might actually be a hybrid Plant/Insect Race...? The only other game I personally know of that's done that is Pok'emon's Grass/Bugs, Paras & Parasect that are part bug part mushrooms, (& sadly, both of them suck buggers & are kinda worthless) & Sewaddle, Swadloon, & Leavanny, & they're not really a true hybrid... more like Bugs that are really good at making Plant Clothes that they then always wear at all times. If this Race is indeed a Plant/Bug Hybrid, then I bet it'll have free dibs on being the most badass version of this idea to exist now, via having no competition.

 

Whaaat no way! I usually had a Paras/Parasect in my party and they did just fine!!

They are just fine for beating the game but I think that he was pointing out how bad they are if you play against other people who know what they are doing.
You'd be surprised just how deeply some people are into Pokemon movesets, EV training etc.

Spore is an awesome move though.

 

Oh god, don't get me into how annoying EV training is...

On Topic: I hope Tiy releases the lore on this race today. Along with the interplanetary travel. And the next race. And the game. Also I want an ice cream sandwich.

 

Looks like a hybrid of the Na'Vi from Avatar & the Wraith from Stargate Atlantis

 

I don't really see it. They aren't striped like the Na'vi, nor do they have braided hair. The teeth don't really fit the bill either. I wouldn't really know about the Wraith, as I am not that familiar with Stargate. Maybe you could post a picture that shows similarities, or just describe the similarities yourself.

To be honest, though, I do hope their society is at least a lighter shade of grey, because the non-human races we have currently sound like it would be pretty terrible to be a member of any of their societies. while the Apex are the worst, what with the Orwellian surveillance state and the (allegedly) random capture of their own people for "research," the Avians are not much better, considering their warlike culture, and their blind adherence to ancient religious dogma.

however, if their society has already been finalized as another collection of terrible living conditions, I would suggest that the next race released be at least a little more happy about things. Perhaps robots. Or frogs. Or robot frogs.

 

Maybe all the races are meant to be horrible in some sort of way, so that your character helps in creating a mass revolution that could result in something positive and amazing! Starbound, not only a game but the start of a revolution timeline in the instability of races and factions. (in game)

in other words, you wont only fix broken and unexplored worlds, but people as well. Maybe. Possibly......Ok all of this is mostlikely wrong lol

Yes, but I just think that there should be at least one race that is at least generally friendly. I mean, there are plenty of possible issues with a society that do not require them all to be generally terrible people. Maybe a terrible disease has been devastating their people for dozens of years, and requiring them to exile the healthy from the home world, to allow the civilization to survive. Maybe a gamma ray burst or a meteor impact destroyed most of the population of the home world, leaving the rest to flee for the stars. a civilization doesn't need to be terrible to be broken. Just saying.

 

Seriously. It'd be nice to see a race that DOESN'T sound so oppressive or war-like. Plus I think it would be completely amusing if we found out that in that .gif image, that it was just smiling, and they were really happy and peaceful. A good, amusing dose of "Don't always judge a book by it's cover."

I too would like if it turned out that the person in the .gif was smiling, however, based on what Tiy has stated earlier in this thread, I doubt they will be entirely peaceful.
