I think its just more of a recent trend to call everything a beta instead of just early-access. Being able to market something as Beta Access sounds better than "Hey you get it before everyone else".

 

Exactly what you've been in.

 

I guess Minecraft, Rusty Hearts, Eden Eternal, Dragon's Prophet, Neo Steam and every other beta made by a professional company are all wrong and this one forumer who got here on Tuesday is right.

It's not easy to calm down when you understand that it may be almost WHOLE FREAKING YEAR before the game is out. Even for those who preordered it. Will you buy cinema tickets to the movie that isn't shot yet and won't be about 5-6 months? And now there's also this damn "I promised beta to come out in 2013". Like WHOA, man, that's turning into a bad habit.

 

Come on, no more release talk please.

Pointing out mistakes is fine, and it's genuinely appreciated. Questioning establishments is good. This community has been built on user feedback. We've made changes to the site, the forums, and even development decisions based on user feedback.
The thing is, a lot of the arguments that have come up lately haven't been the result of mistakes on the team's part (except mine, in the case of that Floran screenshot), but have been misunderstandings. When we tried to honestly clear up those misunderstandings, some people just sort of...chose not to believe us? Which...y'know, you can believe what you want, but the truth's the truth.
I'd like to think that past actions prove that we'll admit when we've legitimately done something wrong, though. I've definitely made my fair share of mistakes.

 

Isn't it a whole thread topic? OP asking people to calm down about release. Darn, I should forget about these forums and maybe this game right until I see it on Steam and torrents.

Well, hello there.
On the topic of the thread, I must say: I agree. I apparently lived under a rock recently, and had no idea how bad the negativity was; then I looked at these comments. For goodness sake, people! They're trying to release a game, one of the biggest in their genre, for what, $15-30? An amazing soundtrack, spoilers that have been thrown at our faces since this forum was birthed. And I realize it's taken a while. I've been here for a year and a half. I would gladly wait ten years for this game. The end result is the same. Like in kindergarten, "No cutting, we're all going to the same place." We will get the game eventually. Maybe we should try to be a little better to the devs. Maybe it was a mmistake to tell us that it would release in 2013; but with every other message in the IRC, every other thread in the forums, and I'm guessing every other email they get is, "RELEASE DATE PLZ!!!!!1!1!one!" They felt pressured to give out a release date because of the community. If we stopped asking them, they would not feel like they have to deliver.

It all started with minecraft and notch mislabeling what beta meant.

Alpha has always been the period in development where content and features are created and implemented

Beta has always been the period of time where bugs are tested for and rooted out

Which is why beta testing (before the widespread use of open and closed betas) wasn't "play the game" but more like "do this thing 40 times to make sure it doesn't crash the game or turn every model into a butt"

 

But most of those games came before Minecraft. How come their betas were still like this?

This is how i see it. Here is a group of people, making a game that they believe is something great. We are not the ones making the game. we are merely waiting on a product to come out. No matter how long it takes as long as there is a product that is given to us for the money spent based on What is shown to us then job well done. we have no say on anything and the fact that the Dev are even listening to us. You sirs and ladys o7.
I hope this well help clear up any whiners.
Read June 2nd progress it gives many hints on how close they are to giving us a product(beta/finished)
1st " Lots of bits and pieces are coming together and our goal is to get the game fully playable without any admin commands" This tells us that the game as it is, is not playable without using commands.
2nd" That means every important item needs to be craftable, getting the costs right and the leveling right for everything that has a level. Making sure ore distributions are correct." This tells us the main focus on there ""to do list""
3rd"It’s going to take us a while but it’s a major step towards the completion of the game." the way i see it is, Steps toward playable beta.
4th And last "We’re also working on the quest system which is going to help give the player direction (if he or she wants one) and alternative ways to earn money and items" This shows us that they want us to feel like this is not just another sandbox but a game worth playing and a game worth presenting to the betas.
IMO: If you want the game to comeout faster. how about you show some support and stop winning about when its gonna be released. Stop basing you hopes on what you assume they are doing and put it on what they have shown you. let the rest be a surprise!
Ps: This is to the Dev team. I have played every mmo out. i have played everything to triple a titles to unheard of indies. and ive never seen a game of this type show so much promise so much potential. Please keep up the good work.

I don't think you guys should have to apologize for making ESTIMATES. You guys have made a game that has so many aspects to it that make it a lot more complicated than a Terraria or Minecraft. When I come to these forums and see people, some of which payed money be so absurd and make such judgements is so appalling. People don't like what I have to say sometimes and I have missed my mark on some posts but when it comes to things like this it's hard for me to even see justification in their actions.
