Things like the past few mistakes and missteps by the dev team should not go unnoticed. It breeds complacency and while these things are pretty minor, and the next few things might be minor, a big mistake might happen, and get treated the same way. Us getting USED to not caring about the minor things will eventually cause more mistakes and less fixing of them, both by us not noticing them and the devs thinking we don't care.

We need to care, not just for us, the CONSUMER'S sakes. But the devs too.

An establishment should never go unquestioned.

We know and understand that. The conversation isn't about that, it's about how we react when we voice this.

If someone is being anti-matter, throwing a bunch of matter at them doesn't balance them out. It just causes a huge explosion.

    Woot physics!

Just look at it this way; if the developers didn't care about customer appreciation and customer satisfaction, they would've stuck to whatever imposed deadline they said originally, released a half-arsed game that's full of problems, and overall unplayable. Would you be happy with a product like that? Of course not. The fact of the matter is, the developers want each and every one of us to be able to enjoy their creation, and see its community thrive and flourish. It's not because they are bad developers, its because they care. Let us all please stop with all of the arguing we've got going on here and just support the developers, and let them do what they know is best.

    Thank you.

Most of the discussions about the mistakes and missteps have been civil, in my experience it's actually often the people on the dev's side who start fights.

There's never a good way to react to stuff like that in places like this. Yes; it's negative. Yes; it shows the devs that they've done something wrong. But that isn't a bad thing.

If nobody criticized artwork art would be just plain terrible. Same goes with management and how situations are handled. People make mistakes, but they'll have a hard time learning from em' if they're never pointed out to them.

It's a combination. I think that people are a bit upset that they've missed several deadlines, or perhaps they don't think that all the time used developing features isn't being used in the best possible manner (working on core features), but then they're hit with the forums going, "Wow, keep up the good work. Glad you're implementing all these new features. You're the best devs ever." And even when things go wrong, they don't care.

Example of what I'm talking about: Someone said on one of the threads about the floran art that legris did such a terrible job that they should find someone else to be the artist.
*ding ding ding* hello? That's what I'm talking about here. Things like that. That's not in the least but helpful.

Yes, I would be happy with a product like that. That's why I do beta tests. Chucklefish wants to make a "nearly-finished product" for their beta, which isn't what a beta is. That's a release, with some updates to the side. They've already promised those updates too.

I completely agree with you here.

Oh, but I disagree, that is the VERY DEFINITION of a beta. Maybe you're thinking of an alpha in which features are not fully fleshed out then? They promised us a beta, not an alpha.

Didn't I ask for the beta to no longer be discussed here? I don't want to get in trouble with the devs. This is already a risky thread. Please and thank you.

I care more about getting a product then I do about that product being perfect. I'll take some bugs, some incomplete features, all of that. They'll be complete eventually anyway unless the team pulls a Mojang and promises a capture the flag mode that they never have any intention to make or something like that.

Every beta I've played was missing key features, and I've played a lot of betas.

I think we have conflicting opinions on what a beta is.

    EDIT:

    sorry

No need to apologize. Well....just as long as this is the last time it's mentioned. :3

Fixed that for you. And in case you're wondering where I get my information regarding software release cycles, please check this out. This is what I believe is the real meaning of a beta, and most companies incorrectly use this term to describe an alpha product, versus a feature-locked beta product.

I've largely withdrawn from the community in part on that negativity.
That, and the fact that I'm pretty confident I won't be seeing the Beta until I'm back and very deep into University-work, so there's little reason for me to get so excited anymore.

You can talk about dissatisfaction all you want; it won't change the fact that the devs aren't ready to launch their game in any way, regardless of what state it's in.

First of all, don't change my posts.
Second, I've never participated in an alpha.
Third, I guess all the betas I've been in were more alpha-like.

    3) Not really, it says that betas are prototypes, which are hardly full featured releases.

See, that's what I find weird. I've been in more betas than I can probably remember, but none of them really felt complete, contradictory to Seph.

Who knows? Maybe I just play a bunch of upside-down betas, or alphas labeled as betas.
