So i've been thinking, what if in SP if you go to bed the night should go by faster? I mean, why not? Theres no other use for beds other then gaining health points. Also, how long is the day and night in starbound?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread of misleading title. About my first time posting threads.

This has been discussed before. It would be good. But Beds are currently way too easy to make for such a power.

The length of the day/night cycle changes on each planet.

the cycle is determined by the size of the planet. the bigger the planet the longer the day/night and visa versa.

This is true, and it should stay like this. Adding Minecraft-style beds would ruin the games fun. Have you ever had 1 bar of health left, running through the dark, only to get jumped by a huge mini-boss?

yup. evasive action. find a hole, and dig under em; use my gun through a 2 wide hole... always works for me. I enjoy the cycle more or less myself. I prefer the way beds work in this game. To skip the night, you mind as well go to your ship, or just have a lantern on a stick when you decide to go out at night. The creatures are not that much tougher at night. Just my thoughts on it.

    what Tamorr said^^^
i dont even stop at night except on T10 worlds only because i dont want to miss a chest, not because of critters. and then i usually mine the area rather than sleep. sometimes i bed down and come here. hehe
nighttme really isnt an issue once you hit impervium.

I just use the bed on my ship, takes a minute or two but it always resets the time of day on a planet when I beam back down

    nighttime is even an issue?

this makes no sense. for example, a day on venus is 230-something earth days. venus, by the way, is very close to the earth, physically. it's only very slightly smaller. day length should be totally random.

What should be and what it is are totally different. From my experience it is what it is. I don't understand with such a simple game not every thing needs to be soooo complex, or realistic to earth terms.

I don't mind them making things according to a starbound terms defining it for what it is. So either way would not bother me, but it is nice to tell from just looking on the map to know how long day/night will be. After all not everything in the game needs to be random. This is one that I would be 50-50 on as each would have their respective benefits & disadvantages.

this isnt lolrandom. that means "not random simply for the sake of being random". it would be more believable to me to have random day lengths, because that's kinda how it works in real life. also, remember that we will be getting quite a bit more information about planets from the starmap. having day lengths not tied to size give another degree of difference between planets, makes them more unique. i'd like it even better if day and night were not forced to be equal, and even more if there were tidally locked planets, where day/night is a function of geography (it's always day over one spot, and always night opposite that)

anyway, when did they sneak this "size = day length" change in? last i remembered it was something like 3 or 6 minutes for all planets.

xD I like resting in my bed cus it adds to the relaxed element to the game. when Im healing up I can go get a drink or alt tab to check something :L I dont wnt to skip my precious break time.

Don't know but it has been that was at least since I started... angry... Might have done it in furious for all I know. But this is something I have noticed, that the night/day is longer on bigger planets & shorter on smaller planets. At least in my experience that is what it looks to me....

Hmm... That would be an ok idea for when the panel does come into the game, but for now it is fine the way it is till they add that panel in. Since the only way to tell anything of the planet is what is in space; well at least the day/night bit. I don't think it is much variance though, but it is noticeable enough of a difference for me. The rest seems to be random. I was actually serious in what I said though. It would not bother me either way, as to me it is just adaptive to what the game is. If something changes then I will have to adapt accordingly. something like that.
