But what they did tell us is very exciting; especially the realistic physics, GUI improvements and different planets having different gravity!

You mean the BOUNCY CASTLE physics right?

Because BOUNCY CASTLE PHYSICS. And we got the numbers to implement them.

Make all the bouncy castles. All of them. Then make two more.

    Concerning May 25th update:
I actually prefer this type of update to the usual screenshots. I really like to hear about things in the abstract rather than see specific spoilers. This type of update lets my imagination run wild with the possibilities.

The physics changes sound pretty freaking awesome. Variable gravity and air friction? Holy hell yes. It's going to be really interesting what the devs do with this tech and to see how it can be affected by mods.

    "Getting ready for things."

I'd be the last to jump the "this means the beta" bandwagon, but..

In my defense, while it was a nice and meaty update, it's not a whiz-bang "Beta's next week here's a picture of Tiy with a cat with a pizza on its head on his head!" wow-a-thon. Well, not for me, anyhow. Just a solid, "hey things are progressing, here's some cool thing's we're doing now that'll pay dividends in the final product" kind of update. The kind that makes ya all warm and fuzzy and, uh, and....

    ....I'll be in my bunk.

Not to shoot down your excitement, but they also wanted to release a trailer sometime before the beta.

Fair enough. I'm fine with that. "Things" is pretty vague regardless, meaning anything from 'nothing' to 'a whole shitton of stuff'.

I took it to mean the addition of items that were dependent on new tech.

I managed to find something you wanted even if it's a terrible image edit I literally did in five minutes...

And also, I missed the second "on his head". Sorry...

This all seemed a lot funner in my head...

    Yessss... Gravity. Gravy... food.

I am quite excited to see what they do with this gravity engine. Gravity bombs, gravity boots, anti-gravity, gravity flavored cake? It means I'll have to be careful mining into a planet, wouldn't want to dig too deep and let all that gravity out.

"Things" may actually mean the trailer too. Hard to make a gameplay trailer without proper physics. Love the fact that different planets will have different gravities by the way. "Things" could be just getting mechanics ready so there's a platform for other mechanics to function off of I suppose... Or maybe "things" means they've made technical improvements to their method of figuring out what pizza toppings everyone wants before they order. A process that always needs streamlining.

    Who knows?

Ugh. GUI work really is the worst work. I CBA to faff about with disqus, so I'm mentioning it here. I sympathize with GUI work. You coder folks have a digital beer, on me.

Also, if I had to guess, that gravity screwy buggy bit was one of the major holdups for beta (and the trailer, since it would make combat not working as intended). No birds and cut-down planetary features would be a no-go, and the rest of what's getting done is largely polish and data entry. That's just speculation from a failed programmer, though, so don't go all ga-ga over the B word or T word I said.

Good lord, they`ve made actual physics into game. That basically means that now, should we get our hands on mechs modding, choosing materials for mech would now change not only their battle functions, but their movement aswell. That is freakin awesome, really.

dynamically change ship structures, scripting flying NPCs, The Big Physics Change - new physics with actual mass, force, friction and all that good stuff. Planets with different gravity levels are also back in now, and this time they work without bugs!

... best update so far. I would like to hear more about this under the hood stuff. Boring it isn't, Im hoping the devs read this because hearing whats going on with core game play improvements is -not- dull. Just the opposite.

Edit: Hope we get a clip of strange gravity worlds soon. Also hope they aren't to common. I suspect the high gravity ones are going to be a pain. (At least we'll increase our powerlevels on them though. ;p)

I just want to say that these daily updates are one of the many things that ChuckleFish is getting right.

Too many companies rely on expensive marketing hype and flashy trailers, completely hiding the game and their work from the public until last minute.
But it's through involving the community that you build something great. Something worthy of the anticipation.

    ...something like a bouncy castle.

I have to say I'm glad to hear the physics in this game are being given a place of high importance. Nothing could kill the fun of this game faster then to have a bouncy low gravity jump everywhere, or a short stumpy jump everywhere. Also hearing about varying degrees of friction sounds pretty awesome too. Not only will you have slippery ice I can see quicksand or maybe even glue traps use to hold a monster still.

Another thing I'm interested in seeing is exactly what "transitioning a live world between one ship and another ship" means. Are they talking about ship docking or are we talking beaming off one ship to a world, and then going back to another ship in orbit? All in all these updates are great...keep'm coming.
