Cutting down trees/Mining ore at the start of the game is too time consuming

Mining speeds have been increased in tonight's upcoming beta patch.

We'll see if they struck a nice balance.

Just seems like most of the things being posted in the threads are belly-aches from people who just want to see thier words on the interwebs. The speeds are fine the difficulty is fine did you really expect this game to cater to YOU? an individual? although as i type this i remind myself of the newer generation who havent ever played a "difficult" game.

There's no reason for the pickaxes and axes to exist. Why not just let the matter manipulator fulfill the functions of both?

You thinking the game is fine is no less of an individual opinion than someone's thought that mining takes too long.

Do you expect the game to cater perfectly to what YOU think is fine, regardless of others' experiences?

Clearly the devs feel that it could be sped up, since the next patch has a mining speed increase in it.

I enjoy the challenging enemies, because they are sometimes difficult. I don't enjoy the mining speed because it is always tedious. Do you see the difference?

I at first thought cutting trees and mining with the MM was rather slow going. At which point I realized building tools remedied that. It is a matter of and a sense of progress. If you start with a tool that harvests at a desirable pace would you be as compelled to work towards a better tool? Would you even need that tool? I wouldn't necessarily argue with the MM harvesting a bit faster, but at the same time I am not discontented with it. I am compelled to collect materials to craft more efficient tools.

On a vaguely related note, I am own a space ship and an MM, but am still crafting stone pickaxes? Perhaps this is just Tier 1 fodder tools, but I feel like I should be crafting a fancier, more high-tech tool. At least in appearance or immersion.

Trying to trivialize my opinions by "embarassing" me. I (and many others) dont think its tedious and i for one dont want this to be some ezmodefarmfest like terraria, but enjoy the finished product after its been nerfed to hell. Build some tools and stop being lazy.

The only change I think the pick could use is to make it mine faster when only acting on 1 block. It seems rather silly that it can mine 9 blocks as quickly as 1. The pick mines rather quickly when you are chopping out chunks of 9 blocks at a time it only feels slow to me when I need to get that one last piece of ore.

I'm not trying to embarrass you, but your combative demeanor is unnecessary.

You actually tried to trivialize an opinion held by many people by stating your own opinion as if it had more value. You think it's fine. That's your opinion. I think mining is too slow and becomes tedious. That's my opinion. Yours is not more valuable or correct than mine, or vice versa, but only one of us is being rude.

For the record, I have tried every pickaxe from MM to gold, and I think they all are too slow and could use a 20-25% boost, which would be noticeable but not extreme.

You just need to chop off 1 tree and collect 5 stones in order to make the tools =/

    this i can agree to

There is a faction of people in this thread who think the difficulty and mining speed is just fine as it currently is, and fear that the mechanics will get dumbed down. That I can understand, and agree with to some extent.

But this faction of people then proceed to call the other people things like "lazy" and "stupid", in their attempt to justify and defend their viewpoint, and I think that is uncalled for. It is offensive and reduces my opinion of both you and your viewpoint. Please stop that.

The game isn't very challenging, really. With that said you can't really talk about it in terms of a difficult game. Not that it's relevant to the point of mining speeds anyway.
And the point of these threads, believe it or not, is for peoples' voices to be heard while the game's being developed. 'Bellyaching' from individuals is just as valuable as any other opinion as long as points put forward are valid.

And for the record, don't think that just because you're talking down others, and talking yourself up, that your own statements carry more weight.
Most of us are adults here, we'll be working at our best if we've got mutual respect going.

Some of your points are valid, but being abrasive about things doesn't really encourage people to agree with them.
    Just saying.
