Customizeable ships

not sure if its been stated as a fact in the past that ships are customizeable, but it is now.

I wish the ships didn't look so... generic :/

It looks like a food chain... Why not have a HUGE multi-story room in the center of the ship instead of three smaller ones?

 

I hope they give us larger rooms and different shapes as we go up in teirs.

 

He didn't say that they're customizable, just that they're working on the upgrading system. That means we might not actually get to choose where new sections are added.

 

Yeah, I'm wondering how much customization there is for the hull, exterior flair, and decks. Not going to get my hopes up and going with the idea that they are more modular. I'd be blown away if they allowed us to custom build the modules.

Well, you can decorate the insides anyway you want. I'm guessing we'll also be able to place background blocks.

 

I imagine if a future stage pushed back the middle level engine, a new vertical shaft / staircase / whatever could be placed in the middle of the ship.

Caveat of upgrading to a massive multistorey room may be that some stuff you'd had placed at floor-level in the small rooms it's replacing would no longer be on a valid floor. Placing temporary floor tiles where the old 'permanent' floors were before might be a stopgap solution so you can dismantle them whenever you're ready.

 

So many good ideas in here already I see.

 

Tiy said specifically in the post this is from that they were working to make sure this wasn't a problem.

 

Just had another one, actually - if the middle engine in the third hull there were pushed back just far enough, the staircase could be added right at that tier. People could block it off if they didn't want stairs there.

As others have said, it'd be great if they could let you choose where any new areas get added
I'm also not a fan of how each room looks sectioned off from everywhere else, what if I want to build one big room on the ship. Even if it forces you to redecorate I'd prefer upgrades to just give you more room, and have you section off different areas manually should you choose to. It's not a huge deal though, I'm sure mods for a better ship design will start showing up with time.

 

I was thinking this(on the gif below) was a ship...i guess i was wrong
